4l3x21 0
Hello there ! Soon i'd like to purchase a 2018 samsung model, either the 65 inch nu7xxx or the 55 inch Q6FN . I've seen that neither of them has the DTS decoder anymore so here's my question: I have a Samsung HT-J5150 home cinema which has a DTS decoder ....IF i connect it to the TV via HDMI ARC , will it decode the sound or it needs to be decoded by the TV (playing a DTS file from a external HDD) . Thanks for your time. Also if you have any of the versions of those tv's i've mentioned, what's your opinion on them ?
FrostByte 5055
A 2018 Samsung TV will not passthrough DTS via ARC or optical as that also requires a DTS decoder which Samsung chose not to pay for in this year's TV models (their BD players still support DTS). If you run the Emby app from your TV there will be no sound if the input file contains only DTS. https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/q6fn-q6f-q6-2018 https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/nu7300 I have a Q8FN. I'm not sure if I've seen others with those models in here, there are a few 2018 owners in here though Here is a link to owners of the Q6FN model at avsforum if you wish to peruse https://www.avsforum.com/forum/166-lcd-flat-panel-displays/2999952-2018-samsung-q6fn-owners-thread-no-price-talk.html Hopefully, the next version of the app will be able to deal with the issue and convert DTS to AC3. Until then I've been converting mine myself Edited November 5, 2018 by FrostByte
4l3x21 0
Is the converting operation a long one? i mean for a 8-10 gb file or 40-60? I might need to do this also in the future. Also is there any work around for this thing? besides a 4k bluray player ( i think )
FrostByte 5055
I would say 5 - 10 minutes when I convert new 4K movies while they are still on my computer. My issue is that all my media is stored on a NAS so all the converting is over network and takes a bit longer. I use PopCorn MKV audio converter and it can do a single movie or your whole library if you wish. http://www.networkedmediatank.com/showthread.php?tid=20887 A BD player may not really be the solution either. Samsung said as of 1 Oct they are not evaluating new app inputs for any BD players. So what's out there now is it. I believe the last I saw Luke said they are working on the solution though SamES said he made a fix now where the server would convert DTS to AC3 on the fly. I'm hoping the fix makes it to the store soon.
