iOS HEVC/Flac causes blue flash

Emby iOS: 1.5.9

Emby Server: 3.5.2.0 on Windows

I'm testing HEVC support on my various devices, and appear to have run into an issue with iOS. The file (HEVC/Flac/SRT subs) direct plays, but the video flashes blue multiple times per second. If I manage to pause on one of those frames, the entire screen is blue (looks to be more or less exactly #0000FF). I'm pretty sure the file itself is fine because if I force a transcode it plays back without issue.

On an unrelated point, I note that playing back from a Blu-ray folder appears to disable hardware encoding (ffmpeg uses libx264, and the Enable Hardware Encoding box is cleared).

I have this issue also with HEVC content.  When it direct play's the file I either get a flashing blue, or a solid blue (no video).  If it transcodes, I also have no issue.

Just to be sure, is the last update from a few days ago supposed to solve the problem?

In my case it doesn't, all HEVC files still have the problem with the blue flickering mentioned in the first post.

I didn't notice when it started exactly since I haven't used my iPad for Emby in a while, but it worked in the past and doesn't work now.

Emby for iOS 1.6.4

Emby Server on Synology 3.5.3.0

If I use a differenct Emby capable player (MrMC) on the same iPad with the same file from the same server it plays perfectly. Looks more Emby for iOS related than the server or the iOS.

Quick update, the problem still persists with the Emby for iOS 1.6.5 update.

I also had the chance to test it with the Android version today, there all files play without a problem.

1.6.6 just appeared in our region. Updated and did a quick test with starting some files, looks like it's fixed.

Working for a software vendor myself I really like the release notes: "Resolve occasional blue flashes during video playback.". "Occasional" like "Always for (some) users when playing HEVC files" :D

I'll do some more tests to see if it's fully resolved and then I'll by a Lifetime license now that even iOS synchronization seems stable most of the time.

Happy to move on from Plex.

Thank you very much for the great product!
