Movies won't play at all for some cases

Some movies are not playing at all, that previously played normally. The same movies won't play in Emby Theater and or the web view of Emby Server.

It appears to be specific to multiple versions. For example, "The Iron Giant" has both "Theatrical" and "Signature" versions. Neither will play now.

The Iron Giant (1999) - Signature.mkv

The Iron Giant (1999) - Theatrical.mkv

I've attached the three latest log files that I hope are relevant.

Before uploading these logs, I did the following:

Launched Emby Theater

Navigated to The Iron Giant in my library

Let the "theme song" start playing in the library view

Clicked the play button

Let the spinner spin for a few seconds

Quit Emby Theater

The same failure to play happens in the web browser of Server as well.

This problem I also see with the Beauty and the Beast, which has multiple files:

Beauty and the Beast (1991) - Extended Edition.mkv

Beauty and the Beast (1991) - Theatrical.mkv

But it doesn't affect Deadpool which has these files:

Deadpool (2016) - HD.mkv

Deadpool (2016) - UHD.mkv

The MKV files are fine. I can play them in VLC.

My Emby install is up to date. But I've manually downgraded to older Electron because of the refresh-rate bug causing the white strip with the current Electron versions.

It's not specific to multiple versions. I went to play a movie with only a single file, and it wouldn't play either.

Something really wrong is happening with Emby on my system.

I think what you really mean to say is that your storage is inaccessible:

file:Z:\Movies\BluRay\The Iron Giant (1999)\Trailers\Signature Edition.mkv: No such file or directory

It's "Cinema Mode"!

Turning that off, the movie plays.

Something is wrong with Cinema Mode for some movies: it can't find or load the trailer...?

My Cinema Mode settings are:

Movies (checked)

Internet Trailers, New and Upcoming only

Include local trailers

Only play unwatched content

I think something is wrong with that file. corrupted, non-existent, inaccessible due to permissions, etc.

That fits with Cinema Mode being the problem.

The reason it can't find that file is it doesn't exist. I don't know why it's looking for a trailer file with that name. I have these two trailers:

The Iron Giant Trailer Brad Bird.mkv

The Iron Giant Trailer Signature Edition.mkv

Perhaps you used to but moved it and haven't run a library scan yet.

Maybe I had it a year ago. In any case I scanned the library before running the playback test to make sure.

I tried another movie. It has the failure, except this trailer exists.

file:C:\Users\David\Videos\Scratch\Library Test\Akira (1988)\Trailers\1 U.S. Trailer (2013).mkv: No such file or directory

because it has the word "trailer" in the file name

Is this new? this has never been a problem before.

I think you have a problem going on with your file system, and naturally you're looking to us for explanation about it.

There is nothing wrong with the filesystem. The files are there. They play fine if I load them in VLC. This is something strange with Emby.

As you saw, Emby is trying to play trailer videos that don't exist even though I've scanned the library numerous times even today.

As a quick check of the suggestion that "Trailer" isn't allowed, I renamed the iron giant trailers to not have "trailer" in them. I then played the movie. It played the local trailer for different movie, which has the word "Trailer" in it.

The server log has text such as this:

2018-07-14 14:35:47.841 Info HttpResultFactory: Setting range response values for Z:\Movies\BluRay\The Iron Giant (1999) [Signature + Commentary]\Trailers\Signature Edition.mkv. RangeRequest: bytes=0- Content-Length: 0, Content-Range: bytes 0--1/0

Emby is looking for folders than haven't existed in six months at least for this video. That folder used to exist. Before the multiple version selection existed, I had that folder for Iron Giant. But I've long since put both video files into a single folder simply named "The Iron Giant".

I've scanned the library manually many times just today, much less since that folder was removed.

Emby seems to be keeping long outdated metadata for Cinema Mode.

How can I purge and refresh Emby's metadata to see if that fixes this problem?

(See above comment on Emby keeping old metadata possibly being the problem.)
