Custom collections save path

I see that when I make a new collection, it shows up in the $Appdata/data/collections/$CollectionName [boxset] folder. But, this folder is empty, unlike other auto-generated movie collections which have a collection.xml file. So, if I want to back up this custom collection made by adding items manually, how do I do that? I tried copying that empty folder back to this folder but it doesn't restore the collection. Where are the details for which items are in a collection stored?

Can you attach the emby server log from when you attempted to do that? thanks.

Please just attach the complete emby server log and let me know around what time you performed the operation. Thanks.

Hi, we are working on documenting the backup process for collections. Once we've done that we'll be updating this topic here based on a question asked by another user:

https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/59476-server-migration-backup-restore/&do=findComment&comment=583840

So please follow that. Thanks.

Has there been any progress on restoring Collections?

both this and the indicated post appear to be dead.

We haven't added it to the backup plugin yet, but they can be easily copied manually from one install to the other. Thanks.

Have not reproduced custom collections not making collection.xml.

But even if the backup plugin did backup all the default/custom collections you would run into the issue of Refreshing custom collections discussed here.

Thanks for the info.

That's hilarious! I wish i kept searching the forum now.

I tried to refresh metadata on a couple of the collections and gave up. i spent hours re-adding collection items and fixing random missing posters after a library copy to a new machine (its an old library so a of images are stored differently or have different names and the metadata manager refresh did nothing)

sorted now
