Selectively sync watched status between users

Our household has 2 users setup. User1 and User2.

 

There are several shows and movies that we watch together, but also shows and movies that we each watch individually.

 

When we watch things together we would like them to be marked as watched on both of our profiles, but when we watch things individually we only want them marked as watched on the individuals profile.

 

Is there any way to achieve this?

 

We could set up a third user called "Shared", but is there any way to push the watched statuses back to the individual accounts?

I had come across a method of doing this within Kodi - something about permanently adding a user to the session of another user, thus syncing watched/resume state between the accounts.  I was just looking for that option this morning but it appears to be within Kodi that you can do it - not sure if it involved Kodi accounts or Emby accounts but it did involve Emby as the backend instead of a SQL DB for Kodi to keep the state synced. The ability to do this inside the Emby server options would be great. The ability to do it at a show-specific level would be fantastic.
