derfz 0
Hello all Looking for a replacement for Plex, so thought I would try Emby. I have installed Emby on Debian Stretch. I have added my movie library. It shows on my web browser on my PC. However, on my DLNA compliant TV I can see the movies, but none of the files in MP4 format can be played. I saw a post indicating that this can be cause by file coruption and to reconvert them to resolve this, so I did and still Emby cannot play any MP4 files. Files in MKV format play just fine. Any comments would be most helpful. Regards Fred
Luke 37330
hi @@derfz, what TV are you playing them on?
derfz 0
Both TVs are Panasonic, TH-50CX700Z and TH-50DX700Z Note: Both these TVs work just fine with Plex even without a custom profile. Regards Fred

Luke 37330
Can you please try to play, and if the issue persists, please attach the emby server log. you can learn how to do that here: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/739-how-to-report-a-problem/ Thanks. Luke 37330
Hi, I don't see any playback attempts here. Are you sure this is the log from the timeframe that you tried to play?
derfz 0
OK, so here is the log again. I first attemped to play Avengers on the DLNA client (Panasonic TH-50DX700Z), then played Avatar, then played Avengers, then played Avatar in that order. I then opened the WEB client and played Avengers, and Avatar. As expected they both played. On the DLNA client the MP4 files show in the list, but they have an ! beside them where the icon should be. And as soon as I attempt to pay them I get "File Not Supported" come up instanly. There is no preview for the MP4 files, but there is preview for the MKV files. Also there is no file information for the MP4 files where there is for the MKV files on the DLNA client. Luke 37330
Did you customize the panasonic dlna profile at all?
derfz 0
No, I don't know anything about custom profiles on Emby as yet, I just installed it and added my library. Regards Fred
Luke 37330
Can you try using the play to feature from the web app to send the mp4 to the panasonic? see if it plays that way. thanks.

Luke 37330
What happened when you tried?
derfz 0
I set the player to my TV in the lounge, then clicked play. For Avatar the TV switched onver and started playing the movie. I then closed the playing movie from the TV. When I did the same for Avengers nothing happened. So I went back to play Avatar again and it started playing as expected. I just tried my custom profiles from Plex on Emby and nothing plays at all. So I deleted the profiles. Odly enough now nothing plays when cast to the TV. Themovies do play in the web browser. I'm at the stage where I think I will move on from Emby simply from the perspective of it not playing a commonly supported file format (MP4) via DLNA. I may come back to it once it has natured a little more. Thank you for the help so far. Regards Fred
Luke 37330
Please try again with the next release. We do obviously support simple mp4 but I don't have a Panasonic on hand for testing so there might be some kind of issue there. Thanks.
derfz 0
I am going to try to reinstall everything again and see what happens. I'm using a test server in my workshop before I deploy on a production server. I did use this link to install Emby on my Debian server. But your install for Emby is vastly different. Which one is the more correect? Regards Fred
