h265/hevc vaapi decode not working/set?

I recently had a problem with emby and quicksync on windows. And thanks to this community Ifound a quick solution. Hopefuly it will be the same now.

 

I have an Asrock J3455 with an fresh installation of ubuntu 17.10 and the emby beta. I enabled vaapi and it is working for encoding the video to h264.  But decoding h265 still works with the native decoder. On windows Quicksync was working fine both ways. But I'd rather use linux for my home server.

 

To me it seems, that emby doesnt even try to use h265_vaapi to decode, since there is no error?

Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (hevc (native) -> h264 (h264_vaapi))

Hi, I think this is just the way it gets logged. If you compare to vaapi documentation, you can see we're doing it as recommended:
