The new launcher has this concept of channels were the App gets an icon on the left and then a row of icons similar to how the recommendations currently shown at the top and mixed together. As the market leader the Nvidia Shield TV is pretty much the development system for Android TV not the Nexus Player. So if the Shield TV does't move to Oreo the app makers have no reason to update their app. If the app makers don't update their apps Nvidia won't upgrade to Oreo.
