Kimballslice1890 6
I had made a prior post requesting LDAP support and was sent to the very large thread that I liked for contribution in my desire to have this support. In the meantime, I am attempting to setup Emby as a replacement for my job's current broadcast system in place. I am looking to limit Local bandwidth to 4mbps per device. I noticed that devices are direct streaming and when looking into this, I saw that all settings to limit bandwidth are for external connections only. Is there a way to limit bandwidth for internal/local connections? If not is there a thread I can post on to request such a feature?
Tur0k 143
I don't know that there is a way to bandwidth limit local LAN connections. What you could do is put your Emby server on a separate LAN from the rest of your work network and then confirm if it will treat all connections from your work network as remote connections globally by enabling the "Internet streaming bitrate limit" in server dashboard - playback - streaming or per user account "Internet streaming bitrate limit" in server dashboard - users - <a user account> - profile. The other possibility is the android app has the ability to set connection speed. Luke 37065
Right we don't currently have a server-side setting for this, but you can still configure 4mbps in the individual Emby apps that you're playing from.
Kimballslice1890 6
Thanks for the feedback. Only issue configuring the client side bandwidth is the amount of people using it (several hundred) and most very technologically illiterate. Don't want to crush local network bandwidth direct streaming full quality content. I may try Tur0k's suggestion. Out of curiosity, is this a feature that has been brought up or thought of for implementation?
Luke 37065
It hasn't really been requested before that I can recall, but you realize the consequence of this right? It will result in increased transcoding, so you're just going to be shifting the pressure away from network bandwidth and onto your server's cpu.
