FrostByte 5049
I'm having an issue when selecting subtitles for movies. When playing a movie and selecting its subtitle the retrieving movie screen comes up and it just sits there. The progress bar doesn't move at all and then it just dumps me out to the movie's title page after a short period of time (maybe 10-15 secs). If I don't select the subtitle the movie plays just fine. This happens with all movies in my collection when choosing the subtitle. Any help would be appreciated. Tikuf 663
Frostbyte The issue is that ffmpeg cannot find the subtitle file or there is an error in it. What language are the subs? Restart your server and let the scan finish Turn off ffmpeg debugging for now but leave server debug on. Del all the log files. Del the contents of %appdata%/MediaBrowser-Server/cache/subtitles Try playback again and make sure there is an ass file in there. When you do this there should be an extra ffmpeg log for subtitle extraction. Can you post the 3 logs (if there are 3 ) and the ass file if subs playback fails. FrostByte 5049
Sure, I'll do that now. Not sure why ffmpeg doesn't know the file is there when Roku sees it, I guess unless it doesn't like my subtitles. All my subtitles are English and only have them for movies which have non-English parts. However, in the case of this one I'm trying now pretty much the whole movie. File names are in the format move.eng.forced.srt example: Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000).eng.forced.srt

FrostByte 5049
Ahh...that makes sense because the ass file was blank on Crouching Tiger. Ok ran several tests on 3 movies. The logs on the last two look a little different than the first I noticed. The first was the only one with a blank ass file. All 3 movies just showed no progress on the retrieving screen and kicked me back out. Tried this several times on all 3 and got the same thing. I did notice something odd in my testing though. On the last two movies if I open the movie's page on the server before trying to load the subtitles on Roku I actually got the progress bar to move on the retrieving screen before it kicked me out and actually got them both two play with subtitles once, but it wasn't consistent and wouldn't always play though at least the progress bar moved if I open the movie on the server first. On the first movie this did not help at all and the progress bar never moved at all. 1. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon The only thing noticeably different with this movie is that the audio is marked Chinese internally and the srt is for the whole movie and not just a small non-English part. 9283b336-c501-6121-b4c7-992f0a86bbbc.ass - blank ffmpeg-42aa04dd-6350-4c58-9757-da939034c361.txt - http://paste2.org/zahAPUOE ffmpeg-sub-convert-c88b8e85-a2cb-48d8-a048-91a2e33f2bbf.txt - http://paste2.org/V5h2BxVg server-63529665620.log - http://paste2.org/Jsm02W0j Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000).eng.forced.srt - http://paste2.org/nZ56eVHe 2. Tikuf 663
Have to tell you I am not sure. we did have a bug awhile back that when a subs extract/convert failed all subsequent ones failed too but I thought we fixed it. Reboot server and roku (just to be sure) and try Charlie's Angels Full Throttle again
FrostByte 5049
Ok, tried again after rebooting all devices and still no luck. Charlie's Angels Full Throttle shows the progress bar moving then stops and kicks me out. It didn't create subtitle folder/file or ffmpeg logs this time either. Crouching Tiger does create logs, though the logs look exactly the same as before with an empty subtitle folder on server. Tikuf 663
Frostbyte Could you please upload the srt files (not paste2) for me please. I cannot replicate this issue at all. I tried it on about 10 titles and all worked as expected.
FrostByte 5049
Here are the 3 from the log files. This problem happens with all my subtitles though so maybe I have something set wrong or something? I have gotten these subtitles to work with WMP/VLC before Thanks FB subtitles.zip
gcw07 347
Just curious, but have you tested playing subtitles in the web client? That would also be a transcode, so just want to see if it is roku specific or a larger issue. Thanks.
Solution Tikuf 663 Posted March 7, 2014 Solution Share Posted March 7, 2014 (edited) Ok using your subs files. Firstly i would suggest you changed the name around so we can get the encoding (charset right for the file). the way you have it it will work for some files but not others try > Elysium (2013).forced.eng.srt so we detect it as english Elysium worked for me (with your naming scheme and the one I mentioned above) Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon One of the weirdest things I have seen. Took me a while to sort it out firstly the srt file had a charset of ucs2 Little Endian which meant for some reason ffmpeg saw it as an audio file (ya i don't know either lol) Once i encoded it in utf8 it worked fine (use this subs file)>> https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/1349444/Crouching%20Tiger%2C%20Hidden%20Dragon%20%282000%29.forced.eng.rar I didnt't get time to test charlies angle's will have a look at that tomorrow. FrostByte 5049
Wow, thanks Tikuf. Really appreciate the help. I guess I must have something else wrong too if it worked for you, just can't figure it out. Edited March 7, 2014 by FrostByte
FrostByte 5049
Just loaded the new Roku beta 1.17 and now for some reason my subtitles are loading fine. Once in awhile the movie hiccups when showing the words from the subtitle, but I'll attribute that to my dual core processor on the server and it isn't bad as long as the movie isn't a foreign ( to me) with all subtitles. At least the movies are playing now and doesn't kick me back out. The correct language shows up now on the Roku and the Crouching Tiger subtitle loads now using the one Tikuf provided with the new font. I'm considering this answered. Thanks again Tikuf for all your help
