For the time being, I'm trying to play my games in WMC/Gamebrowser locally on my Win 7 server. No NAS involved in the games setup and emby

Okay, Are you using any metadata from Launchbox? I just wonder if this is causing the .old files

Launchbox is on a client machine, and I configured it to not move any files, and store metadata locally.  I'm changing my script right after this post

I would ensure that your Gamebrowser.XML is properly formed. Since currently it doesn't load any consoles up, which is why when you launch a game its saying your console list is empty. So it has no idea what executable to use for your emulator:

Sorry for the delay, Holidays are coming up, and my life keeps getting more hectic as I get closer to Christmas.  I inserted the closing tag ( I don't know how I have been missing this all along), and now emby will minmize, then maximize itself like it is trying to launch something.  i suspect an error with retroarch itself so i will have to investigate in that direction as well.  I posted this to say thanks one more time, and let everyone know I haven't forgotten about getting this running.

Another note for this whole thread that I think is important.  Retroarch doesn't support the Wiimote (Currently that I am aware of anyway) so I'll need dolphin in its entirety to play some games.  I also believe that retroarch will not even run wii games with the dolphin core so that explains at least some of my errors.  Retroarch DOES support gamecube games with the Wii core though.  I want to test the gamebrowser command line perameters through a CLI without using Emby/Gamebrowser to see if I'm doing something wrong there, or if there is a setting in retroarch I need to change.

The guide look outdated and seem to only have options for launching local Windows and DOS games, not CEMU. Is anyone able to help? Thank you.

I haven't tried it yet myself, but I did see Wii U game extensions we're added (.wud and .disc) in the gamebrowser resolver, I'll see if I can get it working and update the guide.

 

Heck, entire GB guide needs to be updated.

I got it working

 

1. Go to the server dashboard, gamebrowser plugin config, add a system as usual for Nintendo Wii U

2. In Emby Theater, add an external player with the cemu exe location, Nintendo Wii U, and this for the argument (make sure they are on seperate lines)

  • Troubleshooting
  • If you get an error about the common key, that is related to cemu, its an easy fix you can find on the cemu forums, or just google it :P
  • If you see the game but have no play button, browse to the game folder and open game.xml in notepad, and change
          <GameSystem>WiiU</GameSystem>

          to

          <GameSystem>Nintendo Wii U</GameSystem>

@@shaefurr I've added everything, but how do I add a shortcut to the game that's stored locally on the HTPC (not the server). I can only see how to do this for PC games.

Is there a reason you're keeping the game on the HTPC and not the server, can the network not handle a game of that size? I know some for WiiU are 30gb.

 

Anyway There is no guide for that other than Windows/DOS, because it was never intended to be setup like that.

 

If it wont run from the server, I think you're only option is just "pretending" its a PC game, except you would need a .bat file to use in place of a shortcut so it can load the rom. Also this would only work with Emby for WMC, Emby Theater does not support PC/DOS games yet.

Yeah, the games a very large, and won't run well off the server. I'm using Emby Theatre, so that won't work unfortunately. For now I'm using Steam in Big Picture mode. I found a tool called Ice what automatically adds ROMs to Steam.

Yeah maybe in the future we can get this working in emby, Games Roms were not 30+ GB when gamebrowser first came out :P

 

I used ICE for a long time, but the dev hasn't really touched it in over a year, so I switched to Steam Rom Manager, it can be a tad confusing setting it up the first time, but once you get one game system figured out its easy. Functions exactly the same as ICE though, has more options and stuff to customize, but both ICE and SRM are solid choices for steam.

The error i get trying opening a shortcut in gamebrowser III is "Unknown filetype" :s

In my plugin I use "lnk and rpx" as extensions.

 

If I open the shortcut directly in Cemu it will work with no problems.

 

Opening a .wux file in gamebrowser III also works.

 

Ps, im also using shortcuts in rpcs3 and those work also.

I believe i have found a bug in this whole setup. It seems that when I add my games folder via the regular emby libraries, emby generates a bad game browser.xml file, then recognizes it's bad, and marks it old. This behavior happened repeatedly to me after deleting the newly generated gb.xml and renaming gb.xml.old to gb.xml and doing a fresh library scan. I had this problem in the past and could not figure out what was going on. Tonight after my library scan emby generated a gb.xml file which contained a game systems closing tag that looked like this. <gamesystems />

 

I still don't have this working g but if others see emby regenerating gb.xml files that is likely why. After fixing this tag manually it stopped generating new gb.xml tags even through multiple library scans.

thats whats suppose to be in the game.xml file. it is case sensitive. onces that is done. just go to that game and refresh metadata and refresh mode set for "scan for new and updated files" Then refresh. This is done on Emby Theater

 

This is if you can't get the play button.

 

If you get the play button then these are the command argument

In the gamebrowser settings, I have GB pointed towards the path of my roms (Which is on a server).  Is this correct or do I point it at the exe file for my emulator?  WHen I point GB towards my emulator it doesn't show the play button anymore.

That command is what you need to put in where you add external player in Emby theater.

 

Are you using WMC? If that’s the case, you put that in the switches. I haven’t tried it on there so you may have to use some other command other than {path}. You will need to use /e for dolphin.

I found that the library location needs to be the same as the gamebrowser plugin settings. I recently had an issue where I accidentally used UNC paths for one, and a mapped drive for the other.

That is correct. They need to be mapped the same. It’s better to map on the network, it eliminates any sharing permission issue.
