pir8radio 1292
I have been noticing motion artifacts on HD SD live TV content, at least on the web gui. I ll have to test other clients and report back. But these artifacts show up when objects are moving fast. I don't seem to see them when using the hdhomerun client, emby seems to bring out these issues... Motion artifacts: Scrolling bar on the weather channel. Her hand. Same scroller, White block not moving no artifacts on the "SEVERE" block like above, white block is solid, letters look fine. Word "day" is still scrolling and shows artifacts. pir8radio 1292
I'm assuming this is in Theater? No, web gui.. And it looks like I was mistaken in my original post this happens with all SD channels, Ill fix first post.
Guest asrequested
Well that's interesting. It's definitely a deinterlacing issue, but when transcoded (as it is being), deinterlacing should be happening. Try recording an MPEG2 stream with conversion enabled. And see if that was deinterlaced.
Luke 37096
It's not deinterlacing because it wasn't detected as interlaced by ffprobe. we may just want to force it for mpeg2 and assume it always is.

And see if that was deinterlaced. I recorded and converted to mkv and it was properly de-interlaced. On the LEFT is what emby shows for the converted MKV which plays clearly, On the RIGHT is the same channel recorded but not converted from its original format, plays with artifacts. Both say Interlaced: NO

I'm pretty sure MPEG2 is mostly, if not always interlaced. I just did a test recording of an HD MPEG2 show. Emby says it isn't interlaced, but in fact it actually is.

Guest asrequested
anything I need to change to fix this? Or is it something out of my control? It's out of your control. ffprobe doesn't appear to be correctly analyzing the stream. In theater, you have a choice. It's not deinterlacing because it wasn't detected as interlaced by ffprobe. we may just want to force it for mpeg2 and assume it always is. Luke may have to employ his suggestion.

bungee91 98
Why do we feel that most MPEG2 is interlaced content? I'd really dislike the idea of assuming all of it is, when the majority of content I watch OTA HDHR is in fact 720P. This is certainly dependent on area, however for me the following are all broadcasted in 720P: ABC, FOX, WCIU, WPWR-DT (plus many other smaller stations). http://www.avsforum.com/forum/45-local-hdtv-info-reception/815397-chicago-il-ota.html Considering the majority of my OTA watching is on FOX (football, nightly news, random shows), I would not want this to be forces as assumed interlaced content and force an unnecessary transcode. However on the opposite side of the coin, my 720P content is currently being probed as 720i, which is incorrect. Details in post here https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/50400-live-tv-direct-play-recorded-tv-transcoding/?p=481999 Also attached is the comparison from Emby in comparison to Mediainfo output (double checked this with MPC-HC as well). Guest asrequested
That's curious that ffprobe is switching the scan type. In my case, I just figured it wasn't working. But in your case, it's reading it, incorrectly. So maybe it's misreading mine, too? In my case, I don't use the browser. In Theater, I have yadif, enabled. bungee91 98
Definitely, however reading this thread if it was forced, it could be set to display it as interlaced even on progressive content. I don't think that's the case, but I honestly don't know. I don't actually use the WebUI for playback, I just wanted to see the info for a recording so I decided to look there. This seems to be the case for all content that I watch on this channel. Does ffprobe differ between ffmpeg releases and or Emby distributions? I just wonder if these results vary between versions. I can provide a clip to compare if so.
Guest asrequested
Definitely, however reading this thread if it was forced, it could be set to display it as interlaced even on progressive content. I don't think that's the case, but I honestly don't know. I don't actually use the WebUI for playback, I just wanted to see the info for a recording so I decided to look there. The version that comes with emby hasn't been updated in a while https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Resources/tree/master/ffmpeg/windows A lot of people are using newer builds, like https://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/ and some even build their own. I must admit, I have never thought of just updating ffprobe. Now I want to try that

What are the side effects of going to a the current release of ffmpeg and probe?

I have a clip to test (or if not will make one quickly) if you'd like as well. Would be interesting if yours correctly identifies the content as progressive. As for ffmpeg, I knew that differed, and that people like to load their own preferred ones or update outside of what is packaged.

So I just tested using the stock emby build with zeranoe's ffprobe from version 3.3.3, and well, look what happened... It read it, correctly! To recap: You have content that is interlaced being probed as progressive, and I have progressive being probed as interlaced. I may have to test on my end, or if not send to you to take a lookie (not sure, sometime the Docker is a pain to swap files in).

bungee91 98
I can test one, if you want. Thanks, I'll likely take you up on that. Let me poke around later and I can upload a link to a 10 second recording for comparison.
mwongjay 64
Hey guys, I just ran across this topic and I also have this issue that I've been discussing on another topic from May. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/47389-live-tv-initial-pause-pixelation-and-long-pauses/
Guest asrequested
So, on further testing using bungee's file, probing reveals two different results after a straight remux with no transcoding. In the .ts container emby shows the video (which is progressive) as interlaced. Remuxed to mkv, shows the same video as progressive. This would seem to suggest that ffprobe may be having difficulty with the .ts container.
