Marco2G 0
Hello everyone After getting thoroughly fed up with Plex I thought I'd try Emby. I've run into a little problem though: I set sync location to a Sandisk 128GB mircoSD card. I tagged a season to sync. It just says ready to transfer but it doesn't do anything. When I go to manage offline downloads and click sync it says sync has been started but nothing happens. I should mention that I only forwarded port 8920 as I don't want unencrypted connections to this machine. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this? Edit: Hmm I opened 8096 and now it seems to work. However, this makes me really, REALLY uncomfortable... Edited June 23, 2017 by Marco2G
Luke 37258
Hi @@Marco2G you should only need to open the 8096 port on the local network if that's what you want. By default, the app will only download on WIFI, which generally means when you're inside your home network. Does this help ease your concern? Please let us know. Thanks ! Marco2G 0
Hi Luke Thanks for your reply. I have set it to download over cellular as well, however it is attached to my home wifi. Perhaps it just took a long time to start downloading and it was coincidence that it began after I opened the http port. Howwever if I want to download over cellular, that would mean I have to open unencrypted ports to the outside world too, right? Is Emby sending any login data over http when transfering files? Or is that handled over https? If it's the former, I'd say your developers have work to do Edited June 24, 2017 by Marco2G
Luke 37258
@@Marco2G, no, we don't send login data when transfering files. You should not have to open the unencrypted port if you enabled the option in Emby Server to report https as your remote address. Let us know if this helps. Thanks ! Marco2G 0
In order to troubleshoot my other problem of playing the content, I have deleted all the local files. I tried redownloading once more via cellular. This, again, stands at "ready to transfer" but nothing happens. I noticed with the old transfers that the percentages of the transfers remained randomly below 100 despite the transfers having completed. This is strange. Also I notice that it says "Download scheduled"... but what is this schedule? What am I waiting for? I also have the problem that deleted downloads will remove the downloaded marking in Emby but the files are still on the SD card. Luke 37258
@@Marco2G the app registers a background sync process with the Android OS that runs every 15 minutes.
Marco2G 0
Why not run it immediately? And also I just noticed that the percentage markings on the downloads cannot be trusted. They don't seem to update very regularly. I'm a bit surprised how two different projects in the same functionality space both have problems with major and central functionality. I'm contemplating rooting the phone so I can use a symlink on the storage so Plex will use the SD card. Plex at least got the syncing right. Just not the target location .
