Dev 3.0.129 doesn't install, keeps returning to 128

doron

Recommended Posts

Started MBC today, got the "New version available - Update Now?" for 129. Click "Yes" and confirm.

WMC closes, the usual "downloading" dialog happens, and then - much more quickly than the typical update cycle - WMC/MBC comes up again, splashes the screen and after a bit tells me "New version available" again for 129. When I check I see that 128 is still the installed version.

Rinse, repeat, same thing over and over again. Doesn't want to move to 129.

Log (below) seems to think that everything is okay.

What gives? What do I do?

Thanks!

I presume you're talking about MBClassic-Msi.log, living in ProgramData\MediaBrowser-Classic\Logs .

Yep but that is from version 128.  My best guess is you are having a caching issue at either your ISP or the CDN that propagates our packages.  Give it some time and try again.

I have had issues with both of the last two updates for it updating automatically.

For some reason it has been bringing up the UAC prompt and forcing me to go get my mouse remote to click ok.

For the 127 upgrade I didn't wait long enough or something and had to uninstall/reinstall MBC completely.

Have you changed how these upgrades work now due to the new plugin functionality being included?

Thanks. Seems like a good guess as the download speed seems to go exceptionally high, much more so than in previous upgrades.

Waited some hours and it's still broken... Is there a URL I can use to short-circuit this mess - like bring in the main beef (I'll bring it via another ISP)?

Perhaps, for future versions, you might want to put in a little something that'll prevent stuff like that (e.g. slightly different file names or whatnot).

Each release has a different source file name.

Nothing has changed as far as UAC is concerned - we have always required administrator authorization to install.  This is a requirement of any WMC plug-in.

A day later and the issue is still there.

I see your point re different file names. in that case, there is some problem with this build. This never happened before and I've been installing practically every dev build.

Anything else I can do to debug this?

I am certain that there have been many upgrades which did not require me to click the UAC acceptance dialog.  Not sure how or why but this just started happening for me again recently with the previous two.

Would make sense but there is no way... the PC just runs MediaBrowser.  Doesnt do anything else.  And I am the only one who ever makes changes.  Anyway I will just watch for the next one and see if it happens again.

Just an extra data point - in my case, UAC dialog appears on every upgrade.

(btw, I stll can't upgrade to 129. Same: The download completes, actual installed runs for a split second and that's that. WMC restarts and MBC asks again to upgrade).

Yep, you are seeing the issue we've seen from one or two others.  Your ISP or something else in your network delivery chain is caching very aggressively such that it doesn't realize this is a new file.  It must be using the target name for its cache instead of the source or something like that.  The other person seeing this issue was able to take their machine (it was a laptop) to a different network connection and it updated properly right away.

Why don't you try completely re-booting your router just in case that is what is trying to be too smart.
