On my Linux test server I am using the ffmpeg version that came with the Emby Installer.

Is it advisable to use that version?

Or should I goto https://johnvansickle.com/ffmpeg/ and install the latest?

I am not having an issues, but looking for ways to increase performance.

FWIW I'm using the latest from the site you mentioned (ffmpeg-git-20170301-64bit-static) and it's working great (I'm running on Fedora 21).

I've tried ffmpeg 3.2.* and had to revert back to 2.8.11 due to lots of small issues. The probe on live tv streams wasn't working resulting in my live tv streams being transcoded rather than copied like they should. Transcoding to the Android mobile app doesn't work and only results in a black screen. Everything works perfectly on 2.8.11.
