Just my 2 cents. I do get the random audio drop outs with the fire tv and ac3. But they are not exclusive to emby. I also get them with plex (direct play) and occasionally netflix.

 

My tv is only stereo so I set emby to downmix to stereo and I no longer have any issues.

 

With Netflix, though, there wasn't anything I could do. If I turn off dolby in fire tv settings, I lose 4k

 

I think this is an issue with the fire tv

 

Yes, we believe this is an issue with Fire OS itself but we should be able to work around it by converting the audio to a bitrate it can handle.  That is what the new beta should do.

Got the beta installed.  Dropouts do appear to have been eliminated thus far (admittedly a small sample set - will continue to test), but I've noticed a few other new issues related to audio.  I'll report those in the beta thread.

Well, the latest beta seems to not have resolved the dropouts completely.  Had it occur again, but unfortunately the wife was driving so I couldn't grab the logs.  Resolution was to set to stereo downmix.

Has there been any progress on this front?  I recently purchased a Fire TV and have noticed the audio dropouts.

Hi.  I haven't seen a confirmed report of this since we limited the bitrate on DD back in May.  Please provide specifics on what is happening to you.  It may be something different.  Thanks.

I have had this problem recently. It was with a video that had a 640k e-ac-3 track. I don't get this on regular ac3 any more and e-ac-3 is quite rare in my house.

Can you please reproduce that and provide logs?  The app has the condition for eac3 as well.

A few days ago I had dropouts on a DTS-MA movie.  About one dropout every four to five minutes, lasting about one second.  Today I couldn't reproduce it using the same movie.

 

Consistent dropouts -- 1 every minute or two -- on a Dolby Digital 5.1 movie.  I changed my Emby audio setting from "Direct" to "Downmix to stereo", and that seemed to fix it.  Thankfully, that TV just uses a soundbar, so the stereo downmix is fine.  However, I'm planning on sticking a Fire TV on my home theater, which would obviously need the Direct setting.

 

I'll happily provide logs... but uh... where do I find them?

This was on a Fire TV?  If so, that audio was probably being transcoded to DD on the server.

I had a problem with this yesterday with a file with normal ac3. The ac3 is 640k but it was direct streamed. In the snip from the log below you can see where I had to use the playback correction to switch to VLC. There is no ffmpeg log (it didn't transcode so makes sense).

It looks like the profile is setup properly...

 

That's what I thought but it's not transcoding the audio. No ffmpeg process starts on the server and there is no ffmpeg log created and I get the dropouts at around 2-3 per minute.

Other video that needs transcoding i.e for bandwidth or container change is working fine.

I think this started around 2 weeks ago It's not something I look for as I'm doing most of my rips as 448K ac3 so I only noticed that it wasn't transcoding when I started getting the dropouts again.

Here is the first 5 minutes. I've squashed the video and left the audio intact. I've tested this and it behaves the same as the original file. Direct streams with no transcoding and therefore causes audio dropouts due to having a bitrate greater than 448k
