Hello @@ebr,

I have a problem. I use Emby Server 3.1.2 on a Qnap and an Amazon FireTv as Client.

I had to reinstall all packages on my Qnap, because I crashed something ;)

And now everthing is working fine with the client (direct play for mkv, transcoding..)

...but if I want to play a .ts-file (a recording from my dreambox), the server want to direct stream this file, but nothing happens.

I'm shure it worked before I had to reinstall all.

attached the logs

I hope someone can help me.

regards

Daniel

Hi.  Can you tell me exactly what happens when you play this item?  You said it tried to direct stream but there is a transcoding log.  That could happen if it went through a number of failures trying to play it.

Also, please play the item and then send a log from the app and come back here and give me the particulars.  Instructions are here.  Thanks.

Hi @Luke and @ebr

thank you for your reply.

Today I tried again, one time with FireTV and one time with AppleTV.

On both is the newest client software installed and Server version is 3.1.2.

On FireTV nothing happens, no audio, no video - you can only see this turning circle.

Attached I made a server log from server start incl. playing file.

On AppleTV I only have audio, but no video.

Attached also a server log from server start incl. playing file.

Sorry, it wasn't a transcoding log, it was a directstream log, i named it wrong.

Thank you for your help

I'm sorry I have overseen the part with the app log.

I sent it now, 07:10 p.m.

I sent you the user and server name as p.m.

Thanks

Looks to me like maybe we are trying to stream copy when we shouldn't be but I'll need Luke to weigh in on that.

I have seen problems playing some containers with only a single ref frame (which this item has).

I had a look and all recordings from dreambox - about 500 films - have only a single ref frame.

with vlc I can play them directly on FireTV.

I installed on FireTV the beta app 1.3.17a and the client ist direct playing the file.

next issue appletv  ;)

P.S.: ok, now it's direct playing, but like it was before and the server wanted direct streaming, this should normally also work, am I right?

... and I think this is a server issue?

thanks

Can you please further explain that?  I'm not sure what is working and what's not and what app we're talking about now.

The Apple TV will not be able to direct play a .ts file.  It has very limited format support (basically mp4).

I understand that appletv can't direct play, but also direct streaming doesn't work.

look at post #4 I have also attached the log from appletv.

The file only gives back audio but no video.

With firetv now direct play works, this is okay.

Okay, for the Apple TV, I would defer to this
