Hi to everyone, my first post here :)

I did try pacman -S emby-server but none  shows up from  my sources (error 404)

So I tried yaourt and get those:

 yaourt -Ss emby

community/emby-server 3.0.6030-1
Bring together your videos, music, photos, and live television
aur/emby-server-beta 3.1.262-1 (0) (0.00)
Bring together your videos, music, photos, and live television
aur/emby-server-beta-git 3.1.201-1 (0) (0.00)
Bring together your videos, music, photos, and live television
aur/emby-server-dev-git 3.0.5947.1884.r1.e042cf3-1 (10) (0.00)
Bring together your videos, music, photos, and live television
aur/emby-server-git 3.0.5913-1 (2) (0.00)
Bring together your videos, music, photos, and live television
[michal@ns1 ~]$ yaourt -Ss emby-server
community/emby-server 3.0.6030-1
Bring together your videos, music, photos, and live television
aur/emby-server-beta 3.1.262-1 (0) (0.00)
Bring together your videos, music, photos, and live television
aur/emby-server-beta-git 3.1.201-1 (0) (0.00)
Bring together your videos, music, photos, and live television
aur/emby-server-dev-git 3.0.5947.1884.r1.e042cf3-1 (10) (0.00)
Bring together your videos, music, photos, and live television
aur/emby-server-git 3.0.5913-1 (2) (0.00)

My first question is that which one should I choose, the official or beta? Is beta fully operational?

The other question is that I run KODI (SPMC version) on Nvidia Shield Tv. I understand that there is Kodi plugin but also stand alone client available?
If yes, what  is the better choice?

Thanks.

@@michalb it looks like you might be new to Archlinux - is that a fair assessment?

It seems to me that your local package database is way behind - you need to resync it so that the cached package info is up to date with what is actually in the repos.  The 404 that you got was because it's trying to download package archives that are no longer on the mirrors.

You can do just a database sync with "pacman -Syy" and then re-try the install with "pacman -S emby-server".  Syncing the database is something you should always be doing before attempting to install a package.

You can and should also routinely do a database sync combined with a full system upgrade with "pacman -Syu".

Spend some time with the Arch Wiki - here is a relevant article:  https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/pacman

Edit:  The whole maintenance article is also something you should look through, but the upgrading section is relevant here:  https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/System_maintenance#Upgrading_the_system
