AFFASocial 6 Posted November 25, 2016 Share Posted November 25, 2016 (edited) OK we start with a fresh install after deleting all left over folders and few registry items i found After fresh install ( OF COURSE IT"S FAST ) Before selecting folders I decided to look on my drives and the folder names, on 1 drive the directory names which are 2 had a "-" in the folder name. ONLY DIFFERENCE i can see out of all my drives. NOW I then create of folder as content type Movies, and call it "Animated Movies", I have a total of 255 Animated Movies. When the scan was complete everything was their "except Images for actors DIrectors etc. Now As iv'e been told in past communications, I select the Animated Movies in the Metadata Manager and in options menu upper right I right click and select refresh. now THE SYSTEM SLOWS DOWN, not to fear as when the meta data refresh is complete "No pop up or notification that tells you its done" so check the light for drive and system activity its no longer solid but blinking occasionally..... Now system is back to Lightning SPEED This is unfortunally LOCALLY as I just had sometest remotely, as I did on my phone,,, IN LAN offsite is slugish slow and jumpy on 4 different machines. SO THIS only fixed the LOCAL bogging and leaves us with a issue FROM THE WEB ONLY fix this and everyone will be happy I just tested on 4g with the google browser for android "RESULTS ARE THE SAME jumpy constant start and stop. After many test on 4g with the google browser TRANSCODING settings I found this to work best A POINT IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION Transcoding thread count 2 Enable threading NOT CHECKED Audio downmixing 2 H264 Encoding Presets Medium H264 Coding CRF 18 This plays the smothest out of all the settings,,, TRANSCODING is a definate problem The emby app also seems better ok but takes a bit to load An earlier fresh install I did the only the drive with 2 folders that have a - in the name using mixed content, I called the folder Animated Cartoon Series, when the Auto Media Scan started my system lit up like SOLID. If I try to play something its very slugish as many reports have been made. HENCE TOTAL Process hog //// BOG makes everything slower BROWSER Explorer Loads all is now SLOOOOW. SO I will report in a bit after changing the folder names not to have the - in the name. I have discovered in some Scripts apps LIke Microsoft Office does not like the - in certain files type names as they will fault to a blank screen. This includes the primary folder name . Hope this helps with the ISSUES LOOKS LIKE "Mixed Content folders" are to blame for whatever reason, and poss having a " - " in the folder name. First off what hardware is Emby Server running on (CPU, RAM, etc)? 2. Do you have the option to "Extract chapter images during scan" enabled? This can significantly slow down library scanning, especially on the initial scan. This is resource intensive so it may explain why you are getting choppy playback during library scans. 3. You mention that it is slow when accessing from outside your local network. What is the Up/Down bandwidth or your internet connection? I am only using 1 forlder from 2 drives with these content type set to Movies with just these 255 movies locally its fast and plays +fine for me with localhost as well as my h**p://affamusicfiles.noip.me/8096/ also workd fine from my machione but as I said if someone plays remotely it starts stops starts stops .... UNDERSTAND NOTHING HAS CHANGED ON MY END only on DEVS side. as for as your other questions Download artwork and metadata from the internetEmby Server can download information about your media to enable rich presentations. Save artwork and metadata into media foldersSaving artwork and metadata directly into media folders will put them in a place where they can be easily edited. Enable real time monitoringChanges will be processed immediately, on supported file systems. all Checked other 3 are not not checked Download images in advanceBy default, most images are only downloaded when requested by an Emby app. Enable this option to download all images in advance, as new media is imported. Enable chapter image extractionExtracting chapter images will allow Emby apps to display graphical scene selection menus. The process can be slow, cpu-intensive and may require several gigabytes of space. It runs when videos are discovered, and also as a nightly scheduled task. Extract chapter images during the library scan I STRESS THE CRAP OUT OF EVERYTHING to know its limits, and what I see is the features added H264 Encoding Presets Medium H264 Coding CRF 18 have caused degraded transcoding and trust me I messed with them all slower, slow medium fast , CRF and I reported what seems to fix it somewhat but again it stops starts stops starts. I did notice that if i pause the movie for a few minutes then press play its normal FYI I have throttling UNCHECHED I also have port forwarding to 8096 on the router with minimal FIRWALL restraints... AFFASocial 6 Posted November 25, 2016 Author Share Posted November 25, 2016 Now I will test the MIXED content folder which for one of my fresh in stalls before the above test and findings, using the mixed content type with 2 folder hammered the system to a crawl. only difference in these folders was the folder name with a "-" in the name so i have removed the "-" AND WILL TEST it and report it...
