Multipathing (tv shows on several HDDs)

I would like to know the status of this problem? The infamous multi-pathing. Im also in this situation, and its simply impossible to pool anything else together. As im using a synology 1813+ with volumes comprised of raid0 made upon 2 HDD's at a time.

Kodi team solved this 2 years ago +-, how come emby replicates de problem all over again?

Furthermore, my situation is curious, via the emby webbrowser, all is ok, for example, I have Arrow tv show on 2 HDDs, and via the webbrowser it only shows 1 record (this is because it was already addressed server side). Problem is when i go to my kodi machines, 2 or more entries, depending on how many hdd's i have the tv show stored in.

server side (addressed) As you can see, ARROW is ok via the web browser:

Client side (not addressed), KODI addon messes up:

This would be really useful if addressed, as its keeping me and many others from switching to emby...unfortunately

When this is addressed, not only will I adopt emby as I will become lifetime member gladly.

EDIT: I think this has to do with folder structure ID pulls at the time database is built. I can dig a little more if needed.

It only poins one way.

EDIT2: Metadata being stored either centrally as well as locally (e.g. on media folders) makes no effect or noticeable change. Because the problem must really be ID pulls from database...

Many others? Ok.... well if you want everything to work right away, just use drive pool or something instead of letting the server handle series pooling and you won't have the issue in Kodi. Series pooling is brand new to the server, unfortunately, we are not like other emby apps. It's not just a matter of displaying what the server has, we are integrating into the Kodi database and because of it, it has quirks. But I already contacted Luke to get what we need to have series pooling work in Kodi as well. It's just a matter of time at this point.

Thanks for reporting, see the thread I linked which is the main thread for it.

Don't take it so personal...I love the job of toubleshooting you do not only here as well as in KODI forums.

But yes....this keeps a bunch of people away from the software.

Many others = I did a quick search in the web and there are at least 4 threads about this problem since 2014. It seems like being a known emby for kodi "bug".

For me, 5 threads about a problem is "many others" problem yes.

1 (from 2014):

2 (October 2015):

3 (April, 2016):

4 (bonus, making it total of 5 discussion):

http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/6172-merge-same-tv-show-spanning-different-folders/

EDIT: There is even a feature request, as you've pointed out so yes, "many others" is correct I think! :D

Just my 2 cents here. Which can be 45 pounds if this is solved :D

I don't want anything working straight away cause I don't mind messing around, as, for example, i needed to and did so, in order to make path substitution work. I was just asking a question as to wether or not this bug is solved or being addressed, because KODI without EMBY does not replicate this problem. And, in my particular situation, i use synology, and am unable to pool everything even more. Cause i already made raid partitions, and my system is not static you see, im always buying new HDDs to advance my collection further...thats the main problem..

I have over 50TB in Hard Drives...try to pool that size together (not to mention fragmentation it would cause, moving files up and down just to nest them together, simply because of a sofware bug that can be solved...

As I said, KODI team addressed this issue 2 years ago, i was just not expecting it to happen on the EMBY for KODI addon all over again...

I even tried to build a database with and without metadata centralized, to see if it had anything to do with it...

I have over 5'000 movies and 500 TV shows. Many of which, spreaded across 2 drives. It's impossible to move my entire collection back and forth at this time :(

This, or I still don't understand the drive pooling you are talking about. Again, don't forget I use Synology and KODI on openelecs. No windows whatsoever on the equation, apart from webbrowswer access and management, ofc.

I was only aware of the thread posted above, can you link the other 3 threads please, just so we can make sure we have everyone's take on it.

As stated it is a new feature in the server and the addon needs extra info from the server to make this work in Kodi which I am sure we will get soon.

I still think the work around of moving all your arrow seasons onto the one drive is not an unreasonable solution.

Regarding the threads, sure, here you go:

2 (October 2015):

4 (bonus, making it total of 5 discussion):

http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/6172-merge-same-tv-show-spanning-different-folders/

It's because of so many reports that I was not expecting this issue to occur in mid-2016, nothing else, cause I love the potential of Emby!

Of course not all are kodi addon related, but the problem is the same, so of course anyone who reads those thinks this is an implementation problem on either server as well as clients side...

Regarding the move "thing" unfortunately it's not only Arrow...by a country mile....

Else...I would agree with you the problem is this:

svEm4a7.jpg

And "this" = +/- 30 shows on more than 1 drive (as I own a synology since 2014 and I download lots of new seasons in the present, cause I can't teleport into the future and grab all the seasons of XYZ show and place them in one particular drive) ;)

In order to "workaround" this in my case I would have to move movies as well, to make room for the scattered TV Shows, cause I don't download SD stuff :)

PS: Do you have any ETA on this pull request? Already messaged angelblue05 as well.

Thanks for the wonderful server. I really love everything, and I have everything setted up ready to migrate. As soon as the multi-path thing on the KODI addon gets sorted. Which will probably make me needto rebuild the entire library i'm afraid?

PS2: I would only make a future suggestion (don't know the correct part in the forum so i'll use this post whatever :) ): The ability (server-side) to delete unreferenced/unlinked/unused media artwork from the database (for people that use centralized metadata like me).

----------end of first post edited with 2 solution try-outs for the multipathing TV Shows, which failed---------

Altough the problem lies on ID pulls AFAIK, I guess I'll sit and wait from now on :D

It is because of all these threads that the feature has recently been added/fixed in emby server. Your issue is not related to the threads you reference because the server does now pool tvshows that are in the same library. Your issue is that this change has now caused a compatibility issue with the Kodi add-on Edited by Vidman

Im aware of that. Which is why i said "of course not all are kodi related" but once I've read though them I understood that this problem still persisted...and I guess right. Not on server side yes...but on one of the addons. Just what I tried to say. This being said, angelblue just compiled an alpha of the addon for testing purposes, will test it asap and report back.

Lovely team. Donating soon.

@@djhifi - I am running in to some of the same issues. Especially with the scattered television shows. My solution at the moment is to use one drive to store active ongoing shows and then once each season ends archive it to one of the drives on the array. At least full seasons will be archived together.

Also, how do you have the centralized metadata setup? I tried that and only some of the data ended up in the folder I created. All of the other folders still get the images and info files right with the video files. I'd love to fix that.

I would recommend getting Transparent Raid and setting up a Drive Pool. You simply add all the drives you want as part of the pool and it does everything for you without losing your data. I've been using it for about 7 months without issue.
