MSattler 387
Does the Android TV client know when not to use refresh changes? If the framerate is 23.976 fps but the resolution is 4:3 should it still change the refresh rate? Once I disabled it, playback was fine. I see no translog file so it appears it direct played to my Nvidia Shield. I tried to play a video and it was jerky: Format : Matroska Format version : Version 4 / Version 2 File size : 3.28 GiB Duration : 46mn 57s Overall bit rate : 9 991 Kbps Writing application : Lavf57.23.101 Writing library : Lavf57.23.101 Video ID : 1 Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : High@L4.1 Format settings, CABAC : Yes Format settings, ReFrames : 5 frames Codec ID : V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC Duration : 46mn 57s Bit rate : 8 480 Kbps Width : 1 440 pixels Height : 1 080 pixels Display aspect ratio : 4:3 Frame rate mode : Constant Frame rate : 23.976 fps Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 Bit depth : 8 bits Scan type : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.227 Stream size : 2.72 GiB (83%) Writing library : x264 core 142 r2431 ac76440 Encoding settings : cabac=1 / ref=5 / deblock=1:-2:-2 / analyse=0x3:0x113 / me=umh / subme=8 / psy=1 / psy_rd=1.00:0.00 / mixed_ref=1 / me_range=16 / chroma_me=1 / trellis=1 / 8x8dct=1 / cqm=0 / deadzone=21,11 / fast_pskip=1 / chroma_qp_offset=-2 / threads=12 / lookahead_threads=2 / sliced_threads=0 / nr=0 / decimate=1 / interlaced=0 / bluray_compat=0 / constrained_intra=0 / bframes=3 / b_pyramid=2 / b_adapt=2 / b_bias=0 / direct=3 / weightb=1 / open_gop=0 / weightp=2 / keyint=240 / keyint_min=24 / scenecut=40 / intra_refresh=0 / rc_lookahead=50 / rc=2pass / mbtree=1 / bitrate=8480 / ratetol=1.0 / qcomp=0.60 / qpmin=0 / qpmax=69 / qpstep=4 / cplxblur=20.0 / qblur=0.5 / ip_ratio=1.40 / aq=1:1.00 Language : English Default : Yes Forced : No DURATION : 00:46:57.147000000 Audio ID : 2 Format : DTS Format/Info : Digital Theater Systems Mode : 16 Format settings, Endianness : Big Codec ID : A_DTS Duration : 46mn 57s Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 1 509 Kbps Channel(s) : 6 channels Channel positions : Front: L C R, Side: L R, LFE Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Bit depth : 24 bits Compression mode : Lossy Stream size : 507 MiB (15%) Language : English Default : Yes Forced : No DURATION : 00:46:57.108000000 Text ID : 3 Format : ASS Codec ID : S_TEXT/ASS Codec ID/Info : Advanced Sub Station Alpha Compression mode : Lossless Title : SDH Writing library : Lavc57.24.100 ass Language : English Default : No Forced : No DURATION : 00:46:57.399000000 Menu 00:00:00.000 : :00:00:00.000 00:12:37.507 : :00:12:37.507 00:24:06.737 : :00:24:06.737 00:32:39.457 : :00:32:39.457 00:46:07.932 : :00:46:07.932 thanks! ebr 14925
Why would the aspect ratio have any bearing on the refresh rate?
MSattler 387
Why would the aspect ratio have any bearing on the refresh rate? I'm not sure, all my other content seems to play fine, it was only with this 4:3 aspect ratio that I've had issues with.
Luke 37099
It is probably the high ref frame count. At 1080p 5 ref frames is generally too much for most players to handle. 4 is considered the same maximum. I thought we had a check to transcode this, unless transcoding has been disabled. ebr 14925
We are limiting 1080 content to 4 ref frames but only for h264 specifically. His media info wasn't our format so i'm not sure if maybe we're not seeing that item as h264... Also possible we were transcoding it.

Transcoding is enabled but currently on the Shield this plays back directly. Is there something I should do differently? Do I need to re-encode all of this content? ebr 14925
That shouldn't have been direct streaming with yesterday's beta and before but should with today's (.43). So try it with that and see if it is any different. If not, I'm not sure what we can do. I think the fact it is 4:3 is coincidental.
