A new update to the Android TV app is on its way to both the Google and Amazon stores and should hit a device near you soon.

Lots of things have been tidied up in this release including:

Enhanced SSL support

if you have a setup with a trusted certificate or you have enabled your self-signed one on your Andriod TV device, you should now be able to use these apps with your secured (https) servers including playback through the various players.

Video Playlists and a new Video Queue

Video playlists are now supported and there is now the ability to queue different videos for playback and then manage that queue as an on-demand playlist. Or, you can even save it as a playlist for use over and over.

Videos can be queued from their detail screens (or context menus on the Fire) and the Video Queue will appear in your "Continue Watching" row when you have items you have queued. The queue will automatically manage itself as you watch items and allow you to stop and resume it where you left off.

Playlists in general have also been enhanced to look better (using backdrops from the content within the list) and also allow "Play from here" functionality.

See current item summary during playback

A new info button has been added to the OSD during playback that allows you to show the summary for the currently playing item.

Other minor fixes and enhancements

Several other items have been tightened up or added as well. Check out the new version in either the Amazon or Google stores.
