casminkey 15
Hi, just saw the notice for Emby Theater 2.5 regarding HDMI-CEC... I've never heard of this before but looks interesting. Anyone familiar and able to give a quick run down on how it works? Does the HDMI piece plug into the TV and the USB in the HTPC? Or is it the other way around? What do I do with my current HDMI cable going from TV to HTPC, does this replace that? If I go through a AV receiver, does it change this? Looks like it could be very helpful
ebr 14924
HDMI-CEC is a specification for passing remote control commands over the HDMI connection. Basically, it means that Theater can be controlled with your normal TV remote control without you having to program anything special. Many modern devices support this nowadays. Vidman 589
For a PC it requires one of these: https://www.pulse-eight.com/p/104/usb-hdmi-cec-adapter which goes in between your PC and TV/avr HDMI cable and also plugs into your PC via USB so that your pc can inject and read HDMI-CEC commands from the HDMI chain I've been using it with kodi for years Edited July 21, 2016 by Vidman
