Emby Server, Kodi Client & Windows Sleeping

I've been thinking about a scenario today and wondering how Emby Server handles it.

This is my proposed setup:

  • Emby Server running on a Windows 7 or 10 machine. This machine also has my collection of HDD's with Stablebit Drivepool pooling them.
  • 2 x Amazon Fire TV's (4K versions)
  • 1 x HTPC (Windows 7)
  • All clients run Kodi as the player with the Emby plugin

So what I want to achieve is that the server machine is allowed to sleep when not in use and wakes when required. So it doesn't sleep when I'm playing a movie (Kodi playing the movie) but can sleep say 30 minutes after the movie has finished. Waking up from sleep should be no problem as Kodi can send magic packets to the server.

The problem I think I have is preventing sleep. Even if Kodi is the actual player, can Emby Server keep the PC awake while Kodi is playing the file?
