Error playing movie on fire TV stick in kodi

When trying to play a movie from emby server on kodi fire TV stick I get either an error stating one of more items failed to play check log or it just does nothing. My server is on Linux and the files are on a Samba share which is a USB drive connected to my router. I can see all the movies but when I try to play them I get the error. My log is at http://xbmclogs.com/pn4dh365k

Thanks for any help.

You need to set up path substitution.

It is trying to play this path:

/media/server/Movie-Tv/lessons from UR/LES01MI.01_(HD_720_-_WEB_(H264_2500)).mp4

xnappo

https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Library-Setup

I'm not sure exactly how to do this. I have a samba share set up. The server is on a Linux machine and the files are on a USB drive attached to the router. /media/server/Movie-Tv is how the path appears on the server laptop. Any ideas? Maybe path substitute with drive letter designation if it has one?

I think you want:

from:

/media/server

to:

\\servername\media\server

You can verify the path Kodi expect in kodi settings > addon > install from zip, navigate to your content, the path will be listed at the top. You'll want your paths to reflect this in the emby path substitution. You don't need to indicate smb in your path. If you follow what xnappo mentions in the post above, the client will automatically format it correctly and use smb protocol. Hope this helps.

You two are wonderful. It worked. However it does not direct play. Instead it delays for a while and then plays, I guess, off the network. Its not that big of a deal just curious if I can do anything about that.

Can you post a new Kodi log with the path substitution?

Sorry - unfortunately after it fails a few times, we automatically turn on a setting in the addon 'Settings->Playback->Play from HTTP instead of SMB'.

Can you please turn that off and post another log?

Okay, so now it is looking here:

smb://192.168.0.2/DD-Wrt/Movie-Tv/Movie-Tv/Parents/Bridge of Spies 2015 1080p BluRay x264 DTS-JYK/Bridge of Spies 2015 1080p BluRay x264 DTS-JYK.mkv

Only you can tell us if that is right or not..

Looks like that double Movie-Tv may be at fault. What did you end up with as path substitution?

The issue probably lies in your path substitution. What did you set? Let me know

Remove Movie-Tv in the "to" part of the path substitution. That should do it.

There's no path substitution anymore it seems like. Try re-adding it on your server.
