haeffnkr 3
#1 - When I check the box to have the DVR recording converted a "friendly streaming format" what does this do really? What are the benefits to saving the stream to the other format? If I dont check it, it makes an MPEG2 video as far as I can see. When I stream this recorded video to my android phone or android TV box it does not seem to be transcoded, as the server does not seem to be processing while it streams. #2 - What does the server do, some sort of post processing I assume, from the time the recording timer stops to the time the actual recording is put into chapters? When is this post processing job scheduled to run? Why can I not seek and jump ahead on the stream? (it is just a mpeg2 file that I can jump around in using VLC) thanks for your time. haeffnkr
Luke 37119
Hi. the reason to enable recording conversion is to make streaming the recording to your devices easier for your server. if this is something that is important to you, then you'll want to use it. It doesn't do any post-processing, but rather just converts it to h264/mp4 all on the fly.
