HappyGilmour 2
Hi, As of 3 days ago, my Emby Server for Windows will not start. It crashes with a fault on clr.dll. I have downloaded the latest version and ran the install over my current installation with no joy. I am including 3 log files. Hope they have the data that will help someone figure this out. Thank you in advance! HappyGilmour 2
Sorry. Need to read more carefully. I hope these are what you need. Luke 37068
Hi, I guess I need a better description perhaps of what the problem is. You're saying the server crashes on startup and yet these logs show successful startups as well as playback. It is possible the server is running fine, but the Emby for Windows Media center app is the one that's crashing?
HappyGilmour 2
Well that is curious. I have attached screenshots of the error I am getting. After this happens I cannot access it via web interface, my Roku client or Media Center.
Luke 37068
ok. what i would do is install the latest version from the website on top of your existing install, then let me know if the issue persists. thanks.
HappyGilmour 2
I did that twice. Still got the same error (unless you have updated the version in the last 3 days.)
Luke 37068
yes we have.
HappyGilmour 2
I downloaded the setup.exe. That downloaded the latest version. I let it install. It automatically tried to start the server and Windows reported the same error with the clr.dll module. PS Thank you for actively supporting the product. Luke 37068
can you check the windows event viewer to see if it has a detailed error report? thanks.

Luke 37068
anything else, is that really it? there are no crash logs in the emby server logs folder?
HappyGilmour 2
I don't see anything else in the log folder except what I sent you. This event happens at the same time. (Sorry I didn't see it the first time.) Maybe it has additional info?? Looks like a .NET issue. HappyGilmour 2
Was curious if you found anything else with this? I will make myself available tomorrow if you need me to try different things. One thing I have not tried is a full uninstall and then fresh reinstall. I was afraid it would erase all my settings/library. But I will do whatever needs to be done. Thanks again. ebr 14913
Maybe try installing/re-installing .net 4.5 as this could be a bug in 4.0... https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2679415
HappyGilmour 2
I will try that. Thank you.
HappyGilmour 2
That did not work. It told me I was up-to-date on .NET 4.5 and it wouldn't run. So I uninstalled and reinstalled .NET. Still get the same Emby error. So now trying to uninstall Emby Server and then reinstall it. I'll let you know.
HappyGilmour 2
When I go to uninstall it tells me that "Emby Server has closed" but the process does go on for a while and then finish. But any reinstall (stable, beta, dev) causes the same issue. I have tried disabling AntiMalware (MS Security Essentials) and same error. I am out of ideas. If you folks are also out of ideas I will just blow out Windows and start over.
QwEmby 2
I'm having the exact same issue after Win10 update. server-63592856875.txt transcode-15921311-d6e5-4d2c-9122-af7e6e9405cf.txt server-63592857806.txt transcode-9e90a4fd-70f5-4371-a208-253127c05764.txt transcode-d2e30a42-cac1-4828-ae5f-1c5e8aa8e6d3.txt server-63592856857.txt server-63592852271.txt server-63592847892.txt Edited March 6, 2016 by QwEmby
Luke 37068
I would also consider running hardware diagnostics to check for failures. i researched the error code a bit Finding the exact cause for this is going to be difficult. Review any unmanaged code your service might be using. Suspect environmental problems if there is no obvious candidate, misbehaving malware scanners are notorious. If it repeats very poorly then suspect hardware problems like soft RAM errors.
Luke 37068
I'm having the exact same issue after Win10 update. Please see how to report a problem. Thanks.
HappyGilmour 2
I read that same post about this error. I ran some hardware diags and they came up clean. I am going to try blowing out Windows and reinstalling this weekend. I will let you know. I think it is important to point out too that, while this issue was sudden, it seems too consistent (crashes EVERY time on startup) and not seeing issues on any other app or system log. That, to me, would rule out a hardware problem. What hardware would this app hit that no other part of the OS or any other app hit? My gut is telling me an update to a different app or a Windows update is causing this problem. Hoping that a fresh OS install corrects it. Again, I will post back here with the results. Thanks again for your help. It is very much appreciated.
drashna 46
Rather than wiping the system, try a few things: Check the system disk ("chkdsk c: /r /scan) Check system file integrity ("sfc /scannow") Run the .NET Framework Repair tool: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=30135 That may help fix the issue. HappyGilmour 2
Thank you. I will try that now.
HappyGilmour 2
CHKDSK revealed no errors. SFC found a corrupted ehrecvr.exe. It replaced it from source. But that had no effect on the issue. The .NET repair tool reregistered the install service. But that also had no effect on the error. It sent logs to Microsoft. I guess I will wait to see if they come back with something? In the meantime I am running CHKDSK on my 2 large storage volumes as well.
