So, I guess I have a side question, which emby clients/os's DO support HD Audio?  Obviously Kodi, but please continue with that list.

 

Bitstreamed HD audio, just the WMC client, MBT, ET, and Kodi on a PC as far as I know.  If you don't mind the device decoding to PCM you can add kodi on android.

Is there any confirmation that you are actually getting HD audio in that instance and not just the "core" that is included in those streams?

 

Not that it matters to 99.9% of people using equipment and rooms that they could never be able to reliably tell the difference :).
