Guys, are you aware of the fact that since 3.0.5786 was issued, it seems like all debian based system are broken? https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:emby

When I ran an update from 3.0.5785 to 3.0.5786, emby refuses to install correctly on Debian 7.0. There is just o way I can get this to install ...

Cheers

sudo apt-get install emby-server

sorry this is what you want

Might help if you use the right repository. Your are using our xUbuntu_15.04 when you should probably be using 14.04.

Yes.  You need to be using the 14.04 repos.  Linux Mint has moved to only using the Ubuntu LTS base.

Ok, I thought zisook had a similar issue to mine and hence though he too was having problems with the broken repos. I should probably create a new thread?

Guys, are you aware of the fact that since 3.0.5786 was issued, it seems like all debian based system are broken? https://build.opensuse.org/project/show/home:emby

When I ran an update from 3.0.5785 to 3.0.5786, emby refuses to install correctly on Debian 7.0. There is just o way I can get this to install ...

Cheers

I don't think this is going to help?

I've checked /var/log/message and /var/log/emby-server.log but they are pretty much empty. Any way to get more verbosity from /etc/init.d/emby-server start?

Cheers

Run /usr/bin/emby-sever as sudo

Sent from my D6603 using Tapatalk

Tried already. Given no message implying it has started but then you go to check status and its not running.

:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/emby-server start

:~$ sudo /usr/bin/emby-server start

:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/emby-server status

I'm wondering whether this is a Debian issue. Notice that package status is now blocked on opensuse ...

Nope, the opensuse status has nothing to do with this. And there is nothing in /var/log? What about /var/log/syslog?

I also don't think this is a debian issue, there would be way more posts in the forums then just this one.

Ok, so what I did was to remove emby-server and follow this process:

but I got this:

Hi,

I have been trying to follow this thread but is way beyond my understanding. I did try to re-install using the 14.04 repos but the output is the same "held broken packages"

Any thoughts?

The simplest thing to do is to start from scratch as Linux Mint runs on Ubuntu 14.04.

  1. Open a terminal Ctrl+Alt+T
  2. Type in sudo apt-get remove --purge emby-server
  3. When finished type sudo apt-get autoremove
  4. Start Synaptic Package Manager, go into settings, repositories, PPA and delete anything related to Emby, then close synaptic.
  5. Reboot
  6. From the terminal do sudo apt-get update, follow the information here for xUbuntu 14.04, I would suggest running the first section only, in other words don't add the key.
  7. If at the end of the installation, you get an error regarding dpkg with a message (error code 1) then type sudo apt-get install -f
  8. The installation will continue.

What the above will do is to completely remove Emby, config files and dependencies and will do a clean install.....worst case scenario is I could test this on my own Mint 17.2.

Good Luck.. :)

By the way, I just booted up debian7 vm and did a clean install without issue. No errors whatsoever.

This is becoming a nightmare ... all I did was a dist-upgrade which updated from 3.0.5785 to 5786 and now emby won't start ... the fact emby doesn't provide verbosity when it fails to start is not helping is it ...

Anyway, I performed the following:

sudo apt-get remove mono-xbuild mono-runtime-sgen mono-runtime-common mono-runtime mono-mcs mono-gac mono-devel mono-csharp-shell mono-4.0-gac

sudo apt-get remove libmagickwand3 libmagickcore3 emby-server

and all dependecies were removed.

Then apt-get install emby-server and ... nothing :-(

I've even tried the beta but no luck ....

There must be something wrong because when I do the purge and autoremove, only the emby-server package is removed. Isn't the whole mono system meant to be removed too?

What I have noticed is that this appears when purging:

Rimozione di emby-server-beta...

Eliminazione dei file di configurazione di emby-server-beta...

dpkg: attenzione: nel rimuovere emby-server-beta, la directory "/usr/lib/emby-server/bin" è risultata non vuota e non viene rimossa

Which means its not deleting /usr/lib/emby-server/bin because there is a file in there:

:/etc/apt$ ls /usr/lib/emby-server/bin

MediaBrowser.Server.Mono.exe.so

rm -rf /usr/lib/emby-server
