Koleckai Silvestri 1150
Are you going to overclock your CPU? If not, you don't need the K version. You can save about $50-60 just getting the i5-4460. Without overclocking, you probably won't even notice the difference. Most of the time it will be running at a lower clock modifier anyway. http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646i54460 My server is this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/P3cgkL Storage is a combination of RED drives in 2,3 and 4 terabyte sizes. Netbug 26
No overclocking. I'll drop it down to the i5-4460. That will save me some cash, as you said. Thanks.
CBers 6799
Is this overkill? Depends on how and who will be using the system. A single user with Direct Play won't need a powerful PC, but if transcoding media to multiple remote users, then it does.

I've got a 2500k, and it does ok, but after 3 streams it really starts to bog down, so I've been thinking of upgrading.

Only three people in the house on a regular basis. However, I believe it can do 5 streams without issue. I initially had a problem because I had a Cat5 cable plugged into the server's ethernet. That was stupid and it has been replaced with a Cat6. Going to add another ethernet port to the machine as well. Investigated and priced out 10 Gigabit but it is simply out of my range at the moment. Yes, 10Gb is out of my price range as well, and the benefits at this stage of my usage doesn't seem to justify it, as I've only got a 100Mb/s line out and internally everything is Cat6 wired, so the 1Gbps speeds seem more than adequate, as I never have more than 2 streams on my internal, but can have 5 - 6 streams externally (I rate limit them to 6Mb/s streams). The 5 streams without issue is nice though. I just don't know if that is a big enough bump to justify the spend. I think I might need to spend more and hopefully get a more solid bump.
