MJPG / PCM / AVI - dashcam videos dont work?

Okay, so got this dashcam thing and it records in AVI. But it records as MJPG within AVI. For some reason ffmpeg does nothing with the file?

These wont play in anything with emby. But they do play just fine in bsplayer on windows and android. Are these videos not supported? Can they be? I dont want to permanently convert them. There are over 200 of them. Thanks.

I have the same situation, a bunch of home videos are in MJPG format which is not recognized, is it a ffmpeg/licence problem, or it could be resolved in future releases?

The first suggestion was update ffmpeg then refresh media in web app. Although you may already have the newest ffmpeg version. If so, in that thread there is a link on how to report playback issues. They may ask for a media sample.

nope, I tried a fresh static build of ffmpeg but no luck

I guess the conflict here is identifying MJPEG differences in Embedded Images vs Video files.

If emby hasnt scanned in the media info, but does list the file, it works to play in emby (no media info = always transcodes). Once emby stores media info (ffprobes the file), then it no longer works to play. It just stalls the video player on my roku.

 

The video is me looking for parking at walmart on a rainy day. Nothing big there, this dashcam chops videos into 5 minutes segments hence this one being 0057.. lol

 

Can you get this to work with the sample above, please? 3 more days and its been a year since I created this thread. A nice present for the anniversary date would be to fix this. Lol

Yea i got these a little further for the next release. they won't fail anymore, but won't have video yet, so there's a little more work to do still.

I do hear a sound from these files now, will it be possible to add the video playback in the nearest future?

Please note, once the next server release is available this will require refreshing titles from the detail screen.

Just tested 2 sample files I acquired and they both played with out issue.  But your ffmpeg log clearly shows the video track being ignored.

They are personal videos so I will record another one of the sky or the ground or something else, then I'll reply back.

What app are you playing with?

 

On Google Chrome tries to play the video but then this error message appears:

On the latest beta of Android TV I hear audio but I see a black screen.
