NZarathustra 1
I'm having the same issue. I selected four movies for playback (one MKV, one AVI and two MP4s). For the MKV, AVI and the last MP4, the "load" bar gets to about 1/8 full and then the Roku restarts. I was able to load and play the 3rd one with no issues. I have a Roku 3 model 4200X, OS7, build 9021. I've attached the two logs in the Server log folder. It appears (at least from my noob review) that the third one (that worked) WAS being transcoded, but the rest were not. Hope this helps. I'm unable to figure out how to retrieve logs from the Roku itself, so if you require those, I will need direction (or a link to a walkthrough). Thanks! Edited: Found the walkthrough in the Wiki. server-63583833600.txt transcode-1d4602d6-f973-4c40-83d8-41fc97f33838.txt Edited November 23, 2015 by NZarathustra

NZarathustra 1
Sorry for the multiple posts, but after going through most of the movies on my server, the issue only appears to affect those movies with a runtime greater than 2 hours. I have a 2-hour long movie that will play just fine, but the 2 hour and 2 minute movie causes the Roku to restart. Anything less than or equal to two hours of runtime plays just fine, and anything more than two hours does not. Hope that helps.

KinkyCyborg 0
That makes sense then. The last 2 movies I tried watching that would fail and restart the Roku were Jurassic World and The 33. Both of which are over 2 hours in length. Luke 37063
Good info guys, thanks. i will do some similar testing tonight.
Happy2Play 8281
With some testing if the media is over 2 hrs and needs transcoding the Roku reboots. Media over 2hrs that doesn't need transcoding plays fine.
legallink 187
+1 I can confirm the same issues on my Roku 3 setup.
Jon 34
Same here on my kids' Roku 3 and Roku Stick. If it's 2 hours or more, it restarts. The other two Roku 3s both are on receivers and direct play everything, so they do not experience this.
suyasag 0
Yes movies of duration less than 2 hrs have no problem. This sounds like Roku problem to me!!! Edited November 24, 2015 by suyasag
ITMonkey 1
I can confirm similar behavior. A movie with a run time of 1:58:45 will "load" 1/8 of the way and cause reboot on Roku 2 and 3. While a movie of 1:50:40 will play correctly. Both are m2ts files and >12GB.
Luke 37063
I think it's actually due to the size of the HLS manifest. A longer video just makes it more likely to happen. For example, our segment lengths were listed with six decimals, e.g. 3.000000. Yesterday I removed two which made the manifest size a little smaller and that fixed it for a movie that was right about two hours, but it's still a problem for others. All of the entries in the manifest have long query strings. If i remove the query strings, the Roku video player will actually re-add them back automatically based on the manifest query strings, which is really not a good thing and unlike other HLS players. This makes the manifest a lot smaller and resolves the issue, but I can't put out a release with this change because as soon as they fix it, then that release would be broken and another emergency update would be needed. So we might just have to give it a little more time.
BigBri41 8
Is your query string work around as simple as changing a few lines of code? If so, could users download the emby Roku code branch and just change it temporarily, then deploy the channel in debug mode on the Roku as a temporary work around? Luke 37063
No it's on the server. In dev I've eliminated one query string param that was no longer needed rather than eliminating the entire query string. that seems to have raised the threshold a little higher, but not solved it obviously. QwEmby 2
Exact same behavior I'm seeing on both Rokus. Me, too. What's the word on the fix for this? I may have to look for another media server application. Does anyone have an update? Edited November 26, 2015 by white505
billy_ray 19
Any update on this? My remote Roku users are reporting the same issue.
Murf 3
Also having issue with Roku 3 restarting version 7 build 9021 when playing an avi file, it is over 2 hours. Unsure about transcoding? No transcoding log at time of attempted playback. Server log attached (looks like it is @ 2015-11-26 22:00:12.7010 timestamp.) server-63584171803.txt Edited November 27, 2015 by Murf
Happy2Play 8281
As Luke stated above, the dev release does adjust the threshold a little higher, but looks like about 2h10m is the limit right now.Version 3.0.5808.18888
legallink 187
This does not appear to be something roku is going to address. I haven't seen any discussion from roku on this and all the other apps that were broken appear to have been fixed on mine.
speechles 1917
Id expect with a flood of devices (notably black friday edition roku se) and other things (its holiday in the us, thankgiving) that they arent focused on software updates and roll outs yet. When the holidays, and new device registrations slow down they might have time to start addressing the problem. I dont expect them to make an official announcement about a defect of this kind, just a silent fix. Then a hopeful nobody noticed wink and nod. Polygon 0
I wish I hadn't posted another thread before seeing this. I'm having this same issue. Glad to know it's not a problem with my files. I guess we have to wait for Roku to work this out. I also have the MB Media Browser app installed on the Roku and playing the same movies causes the app to crash but instead of rebooting the Roku it simply goes back to the home screen. QwEmby 2
Why are we expecting Roku to fix this? Why isn't MediaBrowser/Emby correcting this? I'm seriously considering finding another media server. This is B.S.
