Live tv operation

Hello,

I'm very eager to try emby, specially for it's live tv support. However I have just one question regarding the way it operates.

I have a dvb-c card using mediaportal backend. Everything works fine at home but, when I'm away, everything gets complicated. Ate home I can watch my live tv because I have enough bandwidth. When I'm outside, using my android phone p.ex., I have also good bandwidth (4G) but limited amount of data to use. Mediaportal doesn't transcode live tv streams making it impossible for me to use it outside my home. I would spend all my 4g contract within a few minutes.

Is emby capable, using it's transcoding features, to transcode live tv, decreasing the bitrate, using mediaportal plugin ?

Thank you for your help.

Best regards

Ok. From what i've read MPExtended provides external access to mediaportal.

Doesen't emby handles this external access or do I really need MPExtendend. Also, the transcoding is done by emby or MPExtended?

MPExtended is needed in every case.

It goes like this: External app/webbrowser <-> Emby with MediaPortal plugin <-> MPExtended <-> Mediaportal TVServer

Looks complicated but works really well, especially when Emby, MPExtended and TVServer are located on the same machine.

For transcoding both is possible, but i highly suggest you to let Emby do the work!

Thank you. Both version of MP work?

Currently only MP1. MPExtended for MP2 is currently under heavy development but still lacks some features. If all goes well it's ready in one or two month.
