no ff, rewind, nor screen search for mkv and some avi files for extenders

There are some references here in the forum to the issue I'm experiencing.  In those references, they mention an app called "media control" that might be a fix .   I've found it and downloaded it.  But couldn't get it to run inside WMC.  As soon as I try to access it inside WMC it crashes.  It's an older program that looks to no longer have support by the author and looks abandoned for that matter.  

 

Question:

Does anyone still use that app to get ff,rewind and screen search functionality inside an extender, specifically xbox 360 and ceton echo??  

If so, could someone provide a guidance to get this to work.  

If not, does anyone have a working, even partial working solution with some other hack or app?
