pir8radio 1292
As I was just ranting on in the logo submission forum here, I said the key to a logo is getting it out there and making it known. So along those lines, I think it would be nice to be able to share my media on facebook... Much like you can do with the Subsonic server, that server also allows users to share media onto facebook. But subsonic does it in a nice way, that is manageable via the server side, it doesn't make every media file open to the public only "facebook shares" you can set an expire date and it will no longer be accessible by anonymous users after that date is reached. Plus the admin can override users shares, or disable their ability to share stuff on FB at all. This might also be an interesting way to sneak the new Emby logo onto this share post or on the player screen... After media is shared the below would show up on whoever's timeline I shared to, or my own. Devs, test yourself try to share some media to see how the feature works HERE maybe what I'm saying will make more sense. This is really the only feature I like/miss from this other media server, Emby has made EXTREME advancements lately and is right up there at the top of the list when it comes to media servers. Facebook Timeline: (the below image is clickable and should work) Edited April 18, 2015 by pir8radio

ebr 14925
Honestly, I'm a little wary of this kind of totally public sharing via the product. I know that, technically, it should be okay because we only are providing the sharing technique and not the actual content but that argument didn't work very well for Napster and I think this type of public sharing use would draw attention we don't want. Koleckai Silvestri 1150
It should be something like "Joe Blow is watching 'Movie Name'" with a link to the dominant Metadata provider. I don't think they actually want to share media via these social networks. Sharing the media is what got Napster in trouble, not showing what others were listening to. As you're only providing a playback and categorization system, there is no telling where the actual media came from. ebr 14925
Oh, okay - so just sharing of status not the actual content. Then hecks yeah - great idea. But it seems like Pirate was actually asking for true media sharing...
Luke 37099
i was planning on having the ability for a trimmed down detail page that would be public but completely static. no clickable links. no playback. and like he proposed, it would have a configurable expiration and only content that is shared would be eligible for it. so in this model, the page is what would be shared.

As you're only providing a playback and categorization system, there is no telling where the actual media came from. You can already do that using the trakt plugin. Configure trakt plugin to scrobble whatever you are whatching, then in the trakt web page link your facebook account to trakt. You can even personalize the message that will be plublished in facebook like "Estoy viendo [item]" in my case .

But it seems like Pirate was actually asking for true media sharing... Yes i was talking about posting actual media... if you click the facebook share image in my first post you will get a watered down player only... The sharing you don't want.. Since the content is coming from our personal servers/IP wouldn't think it would be an issue.... but i get what your saying... The first post of mine has a clickable image... that image is what would show up on a facebook page, the watered down player is what an anonymous guest would see. But @@Luke what your saying sounds interesting.. i don't quite get what your describing though.. any more info? or a mocked up example?
Luke 37099
just look at the detail page for a movie but imagine nothing on the page being clickable
pir8radio 1292
just look at the detail page for a movie but imagine nothing on the page being clickable ahh so i would click share, and some small banner with maybe a small cover art image would be posted/shared on facebook or whatever, then if they click that it will take them to the full unclickable detail page? that sounds like a good idea, it would keep me at bay for a while... While I'm watching a movie i assume it would be an option to "share what your watching" (button or something) maybe an option to be fully automatic for some libraries, like movies... not music so my page isn't flooded with posts. Hummm... ok, I'm diggin' it...
Narnian 2
I find it useful in sharing my home grown videos... However the description field gets left out??? The fanart backdrop displays and the poster image appears but no details. Thanks for all your hard work this is the best thing out there. The developers have done great work truly impressive you made my HDhomerun a great investment . Is there a limit on how many people can access the server? Say I wanted a 1000 members of my church to have access... is that do able?
