Local Web client address customization

Hi, I was wondering if there's the possiblity to change the address used to access the web client from my home network. Sometimes i need to access the server from my Surface 2 and I always forget the IP address and port (it's not very easy to remember don't you think?)

So I thought that it could be easier to remember if I change the address with one I can't forget, like some makers do with their routers, for exapmple Asus: that uses http://router.asus.com/ to access the configuration interface.

Thanks for the attention =)

Is it possible you are looking for mediabrowser-connect? : http://mediabrowser.tv/community/index.php?/blog/1/entry-130-media-browser-server-305416-beta-released/

Otherwise just doing http://COMPUTERNAMEHERE:PORT will work as well :)

(if you don't remember the port either go to the advanced settings and change it to 80, since that is the standard http port)

I am another person that uses machine name. However I make sure my servers have dedicated IP Addresses as well to make them easier to remember.

Adding /dashboard/index.html to the end of the url should achieve what you are asking for.

WoW http://computername:port works! Thank you!!! Just tell me something, that address takes me to the dashboard, how can I go straight to the media homepage?

with that url it should already be happening.

you can also add /web/index.html

does it not depend on if the account is administrator or not? Mine always takes me to dashboard when i log in since I'm admin, and the SO's always goes to the media homepage because that account is not flagged as admin.

Is it possible to change the sub-directory on the web app from /web or /mediabrowser to something else through a configuration change, would it take a code change/recompile?

right now i don't see us doing that because it will impact every client application. in addition to having an address to type in, they'd also have to allow for entering the sub-directory. So I'd rather not spring that change on all the apps right now.

In theory it could work for the Connect feature since apps just get the full url, but since Connect is optional i'm not about to add it knowing that it will only work in certain conditions.
