Server not connecting to library

Hi,

I've just done a fresh install of windows 7 because I was having lots of problems with the media browser server. I thought there may have been something in my setup which was causing the problems.

When I first log on everything is fine - it connects to my library and I can go on the dashboard and browse all my movies online.

Great - BUT if I stop my server for any reason and try and restart it, it loads and the server logo is in my tray. It seems as if it has not connected to my library - I can tell straight away because when I check my task manager the memory it is using is quite low (about 65,000k) When it's working properly it goes up quite considerably and my MBT connects to it.

Is anyone able to shed any light on why this is happening?

You said "it seems as if it has not connected to my library" but then only stated that you noticed memory usage low.  What actually happens when you try to access your media through the web client or any other app?

Please provide exact details of what you are seeing and a server log from when the problem occurs but it sounds to me like possibly an access permissions problem with your media locations.

In Media Browser Theater I'm getting "there was an error processing the request" and I'm not getting any further.

I'm using UNC path

Server log says

Okay, pretty sure what is happening to you is you are getting a stranded copy of ffmpeg and that is keeping the server from re-starting properly.

Bring up task manager and be sure there are no instances of ffmpeg running and then start the server.

Yes it seems you're correct - ffprobe.exe opens up with the server but when I close the server down it stays on. I shut it down in task manager started the server again and hey presto everything started working once more. Thanks for helping ebr - I was losing the will to live :D

One of the client apps you are using is leaving behind that stranded ffmpeg instance.  Which ones do you use?

It was MBT that left it behind. I've installed MBC as well on my PC last night.  Strange, last night it was trying to scan the media library and was stuck at 17.3%. I only had a few images loading and no metadata was showing up even though it's already in my folders. So I thought I'd try and stop ffprobe.exe from running through the task manager this morning and although it won't close with the server still going, my media is starting to scan again. It keeps appearing in the task manager for a couple of seconds then disappearing then coming back on. Ffmpeg.exe shows briefly then disappears again.
