connection issues when checking for updates

My server quite often fails when checking for updates and plugin updates. The error message is:

 

The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive.

 

Is this happening to anyone else. I'm trying to determine if it's something on the update servers side or something in my router?

 

If I run the updates task enough times it eventually completes successfully.
