JDizzy 21
Currently using JRiver MC and/or XBMC... I read where Media Browser Theater is a 'standalone' client..... Do you have to have Windows Media Center to use Media Browser Theater? ( have Windows 8 but not with the WMC) Will I need to run the Server software even if not using network to access my content? (All my content (12TB) is on external HD connected to HTPC via USB) Also, is software capable of using LAV filters or Madvr? Lastly, I do not see the MB Theater download... only Classic. (if this is not available, do you have to have WMC to use the Classic?) Thanks in advance! Edited October 29, 2013 by JDizzy
Solution swhitmore 781 Posted October 29, 2013 Solution Share Posted October 29, 2013 (edited) I think most of your questions are answered here: What is MB and what do I need?, but I'll throw in some quick answers Do you have to have Windows Media Center to use Media Browser Theater? ( have Windows 8 but not with the WMC) Nope, MBT is a standalone desktop client. Only MBC requires WMC. Will I need to run the Server software even if not using network to access my content? (All my content (12TB) is on external HD connected to HTPC via USB) Yes. The server is not just for accessing content, but also for controlling metadata, plugins, remote playback etc. Also, is software capable of using LAV filters or Madvr? Sure is. LAV is the recommended filter. Lastly, I do not see the MB Theater download... only Classic. (if this is not available, do you have to have WMC to use the Classic?) MBT is still in closed beta. No release date has been set yet, but it shouldn't be too long. Edited October 29, 2013 by swhitmore
JDizzy 21
Alright.... Thanks for quick reply! Guess I will check back occasionally for the Theater portion to be released as I do not have WMC. Any chances of getting on beta? Most my content is FLAC and MKV Bluray and is already in correct format/directory structure. Thanks again... swhitmore 781
Any chances of getting on beta? Probably not at the moment (not up to me though). I recommend trying out the server, see how it fits with your setup. There are some great mobile clients available atm. What version of Windows are you running? Does it not have WMC?
JDizzy 21
Yeah, will try the server to see what it does. Might be hard to tell w/o being able to see though... I'm running Windows 8 on a i5 laptop. 8GB ram, 660 geForce video. It is my dedicated HTPC, HDMI out to Yamaha AMP. No WMC as I never bought their 'upgrade'. One last question... Does MB3 allow for DSP/VST audio filters? Also curious about if it supports Milkdrop2 visualization. Thanks again! swhitmore 781
Not 100% sure on those last questions. It would depend on the client your using though. I believe both MBC and MBT can be setup to use whatever player you want. The server has a web client you can play with. You can browse your library, watch videos etc, in your web browser.
