Linux Mint Emby Theater = choppy, browser playback = smooth. Ideas?

So I just installed Emby Theater on my Linux Mint system, and while it works, the audio is smooth but the video is choppy. However, playback of the same file in a browser (Firefox or Chrome) is smooth.

Any thoughts on where to start looking? 

I will note that the instructions for installing under Linux Mint were not entirely successful as written. libasound2 in particular was not found, and not sure what to do with the  sudo dpkg -i /path/to/deb command....
