Server locks up and manual restarts are needed

This has been an ongoing issue for quite a while and I've searched through the forums for solutions.

I was watching a show and it just stopped (as if I had paused it).  Going to the server (Unraid), I see that the memory usage is above 3% (low, I know, but that usually means that it is locked up)

Once I restart the docker, it works fine.

It used to lock up the entire server (years ago) but I put a limit on the amount of memory allocated to Emby (originally 6GB, now 10GB) and it no longer locks up everything.

I thought that I'd finally fixed it by removing the link to Ombi and getting rid of a few plugins BUT it started happening again.

I keep seeing System.OutOfMemoryException

If you are using your server computer for other things then it may not be Emby that is really having problems. 
In general servers should have few, if any, regular tasks that are not directly related to the job of serving. There is a STRONG tendency to think everything that can be run and does not cause immediate problems can be safely run all the time but Windows is not particularly good at isolating programs from each other. I would first look at whatever other programs run in the background or are launched from time to time and eliminate those that your server does not need.

Except for a couple of times several years ago when Emby made a beta release with real bugs in it that affected most everybody I have never had a crashing problem but my server only runs Emby and Drivepool and TightVNC (so I can access my server from another computer). I never had a problem with my server from lack of memory. My server is on an older computer that cannot run Windows 11 and everything works great. 

I very much doubt that you have any problem created by Emby. Something else is causing your server to crash.

I am not running a Windows-based computer with Emby on it.  I did that years ago but outgrew it.

I am running an Unraid server with 128G RAM.  Most of my dockers run to support Emby (the Arrs and such).

In fact, none of these other programs even talk to Emby directly.  Ombi did but I removed the link and shut it down.  They all find, process, and place files.  Emby later scans and finds something new.

Either way, this problem only affects the Emby docker... no others... and it's been going on for a while.

I tried deleting the docker and reinstalling Emby but I get the same problem.

OK... I deleted all the plugins listed plus a couple of others, like Statistics (which is terrible).

The EpMetaRefresh was only loaded because the default, in the Library, wasn't working well.

Restart was loaded to try and clear the System.OutOfMemoryExceptions problems on a daily basis but it only worked for a while.   

I now have no monitoring plugins at all.

Is this just a temporary thing to see if I still have problems or are these plugins bugged?

I checked the library settings and this was the only one that was set to "After the initial import, automatically refresh metadata from the internet:  Every 90 days"

All others were set to Never and I changed this one to Never, as well.

Not sure why it kept tagging the entire library to be refreshed.

The "children" has to be the folder with the movie, as 99% of these folder contain only the movie files with no sub-folders for extras, etc.

Are your files constantly changing? You could try turning off the realtme monitor for the library, ,then restarting the server and seeing how things compare.

I am suspecting that these downloads / artwork files into the movie/show folders are triggering the realtime monitor

There are also some errors you could follow up on - not sure if there is any relevance to the actual problem/refreshes

OK...updates.

I looked into the photo folder first, as I haven't messed with it in months and found that Immich was making a nightly backup file and putting it into the original Photo folder.  I changed the path and moved the Immich files out of the default Photos.  That should clear that section.

I made some changes to subtitles to see if it would calm down (it was only supposed to be grabbing English,Forced if needed but seemed to be trying to always grab it).  I then went back into the libraries and removed subtitle searching altogether.  If I find that I need a sub, I'll do a search on-the-fly.  Hopefully, that will remove those errors.

As for the Nfo files, I do have the plugin loaded (Nfo Metadata).  Do I need this?  Doesn't Emby already use Nfo files?  It looks like this plugin is for adding additional info, like image paths and such.

The movies that you referenced above were just loaded yesterday.  I don't know why they would throw an error, as the Nfo files were brand new.  I see that NfoMetadata is tagged within the error.  Is that the plugin messing stuff up?

I don't have any xml files anymore.  Everything is nfo.  When I moved my database to the new server, I only imported the movies themselves and basically started over.  That was years ago.

Yes but if you also have the realtime monitor enabled, then that will react to changes in your file system and refresh metadata at that time. your logs show a lot of realtime monitor activity. You could try turning that off on your libraries as well, and then restart the server and see how things compare.

Ok.  I've unchecked all of the Real-Time Monitoring with the exception of Current TV Shows.

I will monitor for a few days.

Question:  Do I need the plugin "NFO Metadata"?  Doesn't Emby already use NFO files.  What does this plugin accomplish?
