Reytec 2 Posted July 21, 2024 Posted July 21, 2024 I'm running a Dell Wyse 5070 with an Gemini Lake Intel J5005 (UHD Graphics 605) and Unraid 6.12.6 My server can't transcode media when tonemapping ist enabled, this problem only occurs when using QuickSync (VAAPI works). but QuickSync is the prefered method since its more efficient. Recently i tested Plex and had a similar problem, with tonemapping enabled the Server falled back to Software transcoding which causes massive load on the CPU and lagging playback. I tested both the official emby stable image and the beta with following results: QuickSync Transcode - disabled Tonemapping - Works QuickSync Transcode - enabled Tonemapping - Broken Playback VAAPI Transcode - enabled Tonemapping - Works, but is inefficent on that CPU I tried to transcode different 4k material with Dolby Vision and/or HDR, always with the same problem. Here are the logs after some Playback attemps: embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-1e1d36e0-ec08-4a3f-bb23-dd3833145ba4_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-07bc4557-385f-427a-994c-824ead83cd86_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-7e34d74b-4e35-4419-8d1e-d6030c4ba15b_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-89b7045b-ae5c-427b-818d-b36c9c039b65_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-5817d51e-473c-4760-a4f1-4cf0ffc317da_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-a84a2fa2-22d4-4fc6-b994-d6e66bf21557_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-abe7b26d-84ef-46d2-83ad-14d79b7c1083_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-c6f4f835-cfec-4513-8a51-35e18a8b8f74_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-e5858834-3ee8-4a64-abb3-920fd9d9b4a3_1.txt

Reytec 2 Posted July 21, 2024 Author Posted July 21, 2024 VAAPI tonemapping is only working when the VAPPI HW method is selected. The VAAPI Extra-T OpenCL method also causes broken playback. vaapi-transcode-vaapihw-tonemapping.txt vaapi-transcode-vaapiopencl-tonemapping-1.txt vaapi-transcode-vaapiopencl-tonemapping-2.txt vaapi-transcode-vaapiopencl-tonemapping-3.txt

If this is true then it sounds like we need to improve the detection so that it never attempts to do it in the first place.

Reytec 2 Posted July 22, 2024 Author Posted July 22, 2024 I found posts with similar problems on the plex and jellyfin forums. There is actually a issue with newer linux kernels in combination with the j5005 and similar cpus. I'm now running Ubuntu Server 22.04 with Kernel 5.15 via VM on Unraid and i can confirm that QuickSync tonemapping works as intended. Not optimal but at least a workaround for now.
MrMackey 33 Posted July 22, 2024 Posted July 22, 2024 @softworkzIs it possible that this is the same problem that we discussed here?

MrMackey 33 Posted July 22, 2024 Posted July 22, 2024 Yes, it looks like it, at least now we know what the probable cause is.

Take it up with Intel, this has been discussed years ago https://community.intel.com/t5/Graphics/The-Gemini-Lake-UHD-605-supports-HDR/m-p/613079

This is something totally different from video acceleration. In other words: You cannot connect an HDR TV or monitor, but you can still transcode 10bit HEVC video. Edited July 22, 2024 by softworkz

This might be resolved in the latest beta (28). We made some updates to the Intel stack and had successful tests. => EDIT: It's in .27 Would you be able to (re)try with the beta? @Reytec- Please note that you might not be able to go back to stable after upgrading, be sure to make a backup. Reytec 2 Posted July 22, 2024 Author Posted July 22, 2024 Not fixed in beta 27 I think i tested beta 27 already before creating this thread. But just to make sure i tried again right now. This is running the Unraid docker under kernel 6.1.64: embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-9f4a49d3-78e4-41de-931a-215e31c5c158_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-93a0ff0a-f8ac-4afe-ba08-0ef4a084a078_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-97f6af84-ace5-40e1-8fe4-c1d2dbc6f766_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-a714039f-5a5b-4fb8-b5b0-1841a1b0389b_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-cf891ec6-ff3a-482e-8c34-21d219edda20_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-f04311b5-ddfc-404d-a593-c9ac61e4cebc_1.txt hardware_detection-63857279267.txt

Luke 39361 Posted October 10, 2024 Posted October 10, 2024 @Reytechave you updated to Emby Server 4.8.10? Has that helped?
Reytec 2 Posted October 21, 2024 Author Posted October 21, 2024 Sorry for the late response, but I'm not using emby at the moment. Maybe someone else with similar hardware can test it. Would be great if it works with newer kernel versions. 1
