Hola

Obtain a domain name or use some DDNS service. Alternatively, use Emby Connect for remote connections.

That is basically exactly what Emby Connect is for, maybe your server did not discover WAN IP change or there was some delay in propagation? When your IP changes, does your Dashboard reflect changed WAN IP?

Yes.

Never checked that as my server is behind a domain, but it really doesn't update IP in the Dashboard.

@Lukejust tested this scenario:

Upon WAN IP change (from WANIP1 to WANIP2), I can see network address change being detected:

However, Dashboard still lists WANIP1 - which is a broken link if followed - as current IP is WANIP2 AND if connecting with either WANIP2:port or through app.emby.media>Emby Connect (where dashboard also lists wrong WANIP1) server is reachable, meaning address change was propagated - why it ain't working for the OP can't say.

The detection is for the LAN address changing, not the WAN address. That will take up to a few hours for the server to realize it, unless you restart it.

Why would any LAN address change be registered there, my server has static IP on LAN that doesn't (nor did, in this example) change? Only thing I could think of was me disconnecting from VPN to trigger WAN IP change. Does disconnecting from VPN client/TAP adapter register as LAN address change, as in multi-NIC environment?

@INDICOHDin that case Dynamic DNS is the way to go in your scenario as any IP change should be much faster to propagate.

But will the domain know both addresses (WAN1, WAN2) for easy switch over?  As by default it would only update for one address correct?

Correct, only the current one, client program (or even some routers) will take care of that. Example for Google domains, and if using some free DDNS service, their client app will do that automatically.

Sorry, not an unRAID user, maybe @jaycedkhas some hints?

Sorry can't help here.

I have never played with failover internet connection.

A more generalized way to put it is that the WAN address typically belongs to the router, not the server machine. Emby Server can detect ip address changes that are happening directly on the server machine.
