Android - Auto Refresh Library

I know this thread is old but I see the OP's issue still happening. Typically after my roommate gets up I go into his system and do his updates, and move and name any new media content to their appropriate library, then launch Emby on his PC and scan the libraries that contain new content. I've notice that to get the Android apps to update in less that an hour or more I actually have to restart the Fire TV to get the libraries in Emby Android app to refresh. Simply switching libraries, or switching servers and then back again does not refresh the libraries in the app. Am I missing something? Thanks

Not sure how much more specific I can possibly be.

@Lukecan you point me to the thread I originally posted in? There is a post about a setting in the server itself that I believe in my case maybe what I'm looking for. I decided to go into the App on the Roku and it also was not updated this morning after I had gone in and dealt wqith Gary's files, so I believe I need to change the update interval in the server if possible. Thanks

The real-time monitor option for each library is what it’s referring to.

For me it has always been like this.
If I put new media on the server (and scan for new media) after it shows in my Edge/admin it can take a long time for it to appear on users FireTVs and Chromecast TV.
Some times I talk to a user a day after I added content and not until they restart their device it shows up.
On my own FireTV 4k Max I have to exit the Emby app and start it again for it to update and show the new stuff on the "Latest in..."

Something is not right there. Mine shows up right away. It even dynamically animates the add while I’m watching it.

I actually concur with this, I shut off (put to sleep) my shield last night and this morning I added some new episodes. When I woke my shield up it was on the launcher home screen, I launched the Emby app which is in the same state I left it since it did not show the splash screen on launch, and it did not refresh the home page. I hit back a couple times to exit the app and relaunch it, which was a fresh start since there was a splash screen and then it refreshed. I'm using the standard Emby for Android app, not Android TV. Simple enough to relaunch the app, it's never really bothered me.

EDIT:
Otherwise yes if you have the app open when you add something it will appear. I had both my web browser and shield open to the home screen and about 45 seconds after the push notification for the new item it appeared on both at the same time.

So the only way to force a refresh is to do it library by library?

There are multiple ways:

  • Scan a single library
  • Scan a parent folder of something, or mulitple with multi-select
  • Scan all libraries

Again does not refresh the apps unless I actually restart the Fire TV, and even then it's questionable. That said maybe this has something to do with it. Twice in the last month I've had to replace libraries cause Emby wasn't seeing the content in it any longer.

I know Android TV would have refreshed that in that scenario.

But that's being deprecated right? 😉

Yes, we'll have to look at why the other app didn't see the change.  My guess is it wasn't monitoring activity while in the background/asleep and didn't refresh immediately upon being woken up.  It may have updated automatically after a minute or so.

Unfortunately not. I can see when I turned it on it made a couple requests for Sync, and I moved down a couple tiles so it requested a backdrop, then I left it until the photos screensaver came on but even after waking from that it still never updated.

HI there, can you please provide a specific example?

I don't know what giving a specific example will accomplish, but here goes. I had to replace the Movie Series library on Gary's system. He nor I had changed a thing and for what seems like no reason Emby just stopped seeing the content. File names same as always, folder address exactly the same. Deleting the library in Emby and re-adding it Emby again showed the content. As for the syncing Gary when he gets up and starts Emby on the Fire TV he has at least 1 episode of a show in his Last Night's library (at least 42 minutes). While he's watching that I go in and rename and file any new media he's received overnight. That only takes less than 10 minutes leaving roughly 30 minutes before the show he's watching is over. With the app open for 30 minutes should be enough time for Emby to recognize the new content and add it to it's libraries.

Was the server aware of the change?

Sorry for the late reply, just saw your post. Yes once I renamed the files and moved them I scanned the appropriate libraries and checked them and the new content showed in them on the PC.
