I think it really comes down to the form factor that you personally want.

True but no Ethernet port sucks.

I dislike wifi unless I am forced to use it because of it being more mobile of a device. Like a phone or tablet.

The laptop would save me $100 after adding ram and ssd to mini pc but not sure if that is worth it when it has no ethernet port.

Already have a spare monitor , keyboard and mouse when needed at first but after not anymore.

You can use an Ethernet adapter on the laptop.  Does location/footprint help you make the decision?

I would buy the laptop and just use a USB ethernet adapter.  It's what I did for my i5-1235u laptop.  USB-C ethernet adapter.  No issues with speeds at all.

If your concerned about $$ I would look for something cheaper.  The i3-1215u has a passmark score of 11046 which means even without quicksync it could do 5 1080p transcodes.  It's barely slower than my i5-1235u which has a mere 13501 passmark score.  The i5-1335u has a passmark score of 16400.  All their single core speeds are withing 5% of each other.

But if you are really set on the i5-1335u here is one without a NIC for $280 with $20 shipping and here is one with a NIC for $315

@RanmaCanada I would go for the one with a nic, and it has 16gb ram.

It look like the 1 without, has soldered Ram, so he will be stuck with 8gb ram.

Oh more than likely, but I think it's already been proven that for quicksync you don't need a lot of ram. Realisitcally OP could get an N100 based NUC and have no problems with it being a server.
