Trying out the new version 4.8.0.80. So far so good. There are a few quirks, which I expected, so I am running on a beta server while keeping the stable server running v4.7 as a backup.

I noticed that the Backup & Restore function has changed and it does not recognize my v4.7 backups. Can this be manually fixed so that I can import the configuration from my stable production emby into the beta server?

Thanks for advice in advance.

Would love to know about this too.

I am I your spot, where I can't sync users ( login and password ), but can via this plugin, in first post.

Sync watch stats, but not users and passwords.

That means that I can not install a fresh new 4.8 server, without asking or sending people ( family ) new passwords.

That really annoying.

The revamped backup plugin is a complete backup process now, no longer a slice and dice of specific things which was problematic before. The 4.7 backups are not compatible.

However if you look at the first post of the thread that was linked to, I captured the safe portions of the old backup plugin into a new legacy plugin that you can use with your 4.7 backups.

But we would still need to recreate every user + password, right.

Or am I missing something ?

No as the plugin is maintaining users.db with that info and library.db with userdata.

Well just tried that up against the beta docker build 4.8.0.78

and that only shows data to restore.

It see users from old server and admin user on new server.

So it seems that I only have an option to import to admin user of new server.

And not all old server users.

The dropbox is empty be sides from my admin user.

Per the plugin name I will guess there is a compatibility issue.  As it is a full database restore not a selective user restore with userdata mapping.

Hi.  With the legacy restore plugin you can only restore the user data not the users.  So just recreate the users on the new server and then you can import their data.

@Happy2Play yes and I do NOT want a full backup and restore.

I only want to restore user's,  passwords and watch history.

Not the whole DB.

Its almost 10 years old, and figured I would start new.

With those exceptions.

And there for I would use this plugin @Lukeposted in above linked post https://emby.media/community/applications/core/interface/file/attachment.php?id=180387&key=022802f86f2fd660d37aa18da69358f4

Would it be possible to build users profile backup and restore into the new backup?

personally I don’t mind the way it is now but a lot of people are having issues with it.

But I suppose it’s because the users are now in the main db I believe?

No the legacy version only captures userdata.

The info you want is in the users.db

@Happy2Playok thanks.

So you are saying shutdown old v4.7.14.0.

Copy users.db to new server v4.8.0.80 and start that up.

And that should do it ?

In theory yes but users.db and library.db are linked as the userdatas table contains id numbers so if they are not created together you could ended up with userdata applying to the wrong person.

ha ha, ok will call the Family when time comes, and ask what there passwords are.

Hopping they done think Im a phone scammer.

But tbh that was the old usability of the backup.

Well you can change their passwords in the server ui.

Yes, but they can't.

So might as well call / text them what is going on.

Best practice for family service 😉

Perfect @Luke. This is exactly what I was looking for. The v4.8 server spent a good fraction of the day scanning the media library. All is complete now, and testing can begin. I look forward to the blog post on new features. Thank you and the emby team for your continued efforts to improve the product.
