"Support extras for seasons and episodes" - how does this work?

Previously, any extras for TV shows had to be thrown into the "Specials" folder, mixed with actual storyline specials.  I'm assuming from this line in the 4.8.0.80 notes that extras for TV shows can now act as they do with movies.  Does that mean creating "featurettes" and "deleted scenes" folders within TV show season folders, or something else? The KB does not appear to be up-to-date with this....

I tried using "Featurettes" folder in a TV show and it is not working for me.

Hi there, what exactly are you doing, and what exactly makes you think that it's not working?

Apologies, I went back (I had setup a bit ago) and checked...seems to be working. I must not have waited long enough because the specials I had showed up right aware but the Extras I had in the "Featurettes" folder just took longer.
To answer Rexerm, putting files in the "Featurettes" should work for you, they'll show up along side the "Specials" (aka the S00Exx files), but don't need to follow the specials formatting that you'd expect for TheTVDB.

Is there a reference on how to name "specials" for the episode and naming for "season specials"?  For example:

Season 1 Episode 1- Deleted Scenes, Commentaries (for this episode)

Season 1-Gag Reel

Yes the guide is here..

You are looking for the section titled specials.

A word of advice (been there done that) is to use reverse lookup.....IE lookup your specials on the meta data site to find the correct episode tag.

There are occasionally episodes or "specials" that are listed as multiple different things.  An example is the Futurama Movies - Benders Big Score and others that are listed as: Movies,  Series episodes, and specials, on TheTVDB,  so its your choice how to label them.

That guide is old and doesn't include this new feature.

That has always worked. You could always create a folder in your TV show folder and call it anything and it will show up as a season, even before 4.8. It just wouldn't pull any external metadata.

@LukeI am interested in this new feature "Support extras for seasons and episodes", but you don't state anywhere what this feature does or how it works.

The same folders you were using at the series level can now be placed at the season level. Same presentation as before, but just an alternative option for storage if you wish.

Extras for individual episodes are supported in the same way as extras for video files.

@sa2000will update the docs. Thanks !

Should season level extras appear in Specials/Season 0 and the Season they are applied in?

Extras applied in Season 3 but appear in both 0 and 3.

What is the official rule for episodes?  Is it -featurette and/or subfoldered episodes with featurettes folder?

Do all the same variables apply to the dash naming and subfolder episode level naming?

Support for specials right next to the episode files:

Doctor Who (1963) S01E01 - Episode Title-featurette.mp4
But further documentation will be needed for what will work against specific episode.

Doctor Who (1963) S01E01 - Episode Title-Deleted Scenes.mp4

Or if nested episode structure will work.

     Doctor Who (1963)\Season 1\Doctor Who (1963) S01E01\Doctor Who (1963) S01E01.mkv

     Doctor Who (1963)\Season 1\Doctor Who (1963) S01E01\Extras\Deleted Scenes S01E01.mkv

Along with documentation for multi-version episodes and extras.

Both methods should work for episodes. The folder method requires the episode to be in its own subfolder.

Yes but what are all the dash extensions available?  Are they pretty must the same subfolder names? I know -extras/-extra does not work as it multiversions.  So episode conditions are still unknown.

But testing shows

  • -extras  (doesn't work)
  • -specials  (doesn't work)
  • -shorts
  • -scenes
  • -featurettes
  • -behind the scenes  (doesn't work)
  • -deleted scenes`
  • -interviews

As not much has really changed in the KB as the example is just aliased Specials/Season 0 structure ie Show/Series level.  But yes does mention same applies to season level but true examples are still needed along with specific episode info/examples.

extras and specials are for subfolders, not the dashes.

behind the scenes with a dash would be without spaces.

@sa2000can update the doc. Thanks.
