CANNOT CONNECT TO SERVER ON SAMSUNG TV

Hi everyone hope all is well , so i have been reading a lot about emby not working on samsung tv but I have a few questions if anyone can help please.

I have two samsung smart tvs in different apartments of  mine , once is slightly newer ( maybe 1 half years old ) and one is 3 to 4 years old.

Initially it worked on both then after a month or so stopped working to clarify the server is not mine and when i try to click it it displays a message server connection error please check your network connection. Then i read somewhere if you reset the smart hub it may work and it did on the newer tv , but on the older one i did the same and it did not work.

Any advise alternative solutions would be highly appreciated ( for eg. if i can buy a fire stick and use emby on that etc ) or anything else.

thank you all in advance.

Hi, is the server still available? Have you asked the owner? Maybe their server ip address has changed.

Hi thank you for your reply , server is available because i am using it on all my other devices ( eg. phones , LG tv , Newer samsung tv as well ) so nothing has changed or i am assuming the other devices would not work as well.

Did they change the setting to require https connection?  If it's an older Samsung and they're using LetsEncrypt then that will likely be an issue.

I am not really sure if they changed anything to https ( not too tech savy to be honest ) but im assuming if something was changed would it still work on the other devices ?

the tv isnt really that old max 4 years old , is there any alternate solution ? to use a fire stick or something ?

thank you.

Yes, it could still work on other devices.  The problem is the primary root certificate for LetsEncrypt expired a few years ago and in older TV's it hasn't been updated.  That can prevent them from connecting if the server requires https (rather than allowing http or https).  Only Samsung can update it with a firmware update, but for older models that is unlikely to occur.

There are other options, it depends on what formats you want to support, whether the server can support transcoding, etc.  Nvidia Shield Pro is often the go-to alternative, but also not the cheapest.

Check this topic below.

I suspect it still might not work but try including port 80 (assuming that is the inbound port) in the server address field (https://server:80/path) then leave the port field blank.
