LG App Hanging - Just before Christmas!!!

I've worked in IT support so when someone says "nothing's changed" you know it has, but the troubleshooting just got harder, well...

My LG TV Emby App has started hanging, it used to work brilliantly, if a bit quiet. The app starts, it brings up the emby screen, with the libraries, and then just hangs. I can press buttons on the remote, and after a long pause, it will perform the button's action. I can't play anything though. I can't get that far on, but the problem is ....Nothing's changed 🙂

I don't know if there's been a TV os update, but the TV is running 05.30.40, I checked for updates, and there are non for the TV's os

I've removed and re-installed The Emby App, it's version 1.0.39.

It was working perfectly. It's connected via ethernet to the emby server, although I have also tried it wirelessly. I also have a firestick with emby on, connected wirelessly, plugged into the TV. That works fine. However some of the large 4K films only play on the TV, as the firestick can't handle the size / bandwidth of them, but the TV did.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Hi, please try removing these plugins:

2023-12-19 09:09:20.915 Info App: Loading playback_reporting, Version=2.0.1.1, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null from

Then restart the server and see if that helps. Thanks.

I logged in tonight to check in and see if anyone else was having this issue. I see a few people were having similar symptoms. This thread caught my attention because I actually use the statistics and Bulky plugins. I just uninstalled them and rebooted the server. Made it through a sitcom episode with no freeze.

Just wanted to share my experience in case anyone else has this issue.

Darn it, I spoke too soon. Two episodes later and video is hanging randomly. I don't know if it is a temp folder getting filled or what. I just rebooted and enabled debug logging.

Thanks for the suggestion. I removed the plugins as asked. rebooted the emby server from the dashboard, then decided to reboot the server totally, which I did.

Unfortunately, the problem is still there. So I took on board the comment from MarriedMan, reset the TV to factory defaults, then installed the Emby App, unfortunatley it is still hanging/running very very slow.

It's running very slow, as if it were paging memory, I know it's not, but it looks similar. I checked my disk space

I do think you're right about the plug in's I recently added bulky and Genre cleaner I've done a lot of tagging of Movies with a new Genre "Christmas" Bith plugins are no longer there, but as marriedman says have they filled up a temporary folder? It is acting just like a disk full and paging system.

Fortunately, the problem seems restricted to just the TV's client. But what's weird is we have another TV using the client and it's fine. Is there a folder per instance of the TV client?

Is there a folder I can clean out?

Thanks for your help, 6 days before Christmas and the pressure is on me, worst of all.....from my wife.

I’m not sure I understand. I can use Firefox & chrome on the physical Emby server to access content on the Emby server. 127.0.0.1 There’s a sound card in the Emby server, connected to my hifi. That all works fine.

Hi Luke, I've attached a log file .

I've been doing a bit of testing. The menu seems to be to problem. Once I've selected a video file it plays it ok, but the response time from pressing a button is about 10 seconds. If you have a look at the beginning and 12:27 that's when I was moving through the menus. You'll also see from the log it played on. On resuming for a fraction of a second it showed the start of the tv show / movie, but then jumped to the correct place.

It used to work fine, with no lag in the menu's.

I noticed an error pointing to /data/music/cover.png, so I've edited the music library images to remove the image.

Thanks for looking at it 🙂

I enabled debug logging, then played around with the LG TV's emby client. it was still laggy, but not as much. The tv had been on but not used.

I've attached the debut-enabled log.

I hope there's more useful info in it.

Thanks

To improve the performance of your server, consider removing these plugins:

2023-12-30 08:59:39.004 Info App: Loading MovieThemeSongs, Version=1.7.5.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=null from /var/lib/emby/plugins/moviethemesongs.dll

This is weird, it's started behaving, but I haven't changed anything. Have any of the plugins been updated that could explain this?

Thanks
