Access to Emby restricted after update to newest Emby and Kodi NextGen

After I updated to the newest Emby server 4.7.14 and Emby For Kodi Next Gen 8.2.13 I noticed that new shows were not being shown in Kodi, when I could see them in Emby. So in the next gen addon I performed a local database reset and later a Factory reset and a complete delete and reinstall of the addon.

It finds the Emby server fine, I can login, but no libraries are shown and nothing is synchroned. When asked which libraries I want, I can only select "All". Sometimes a popup shows "Access to Emby is restricted".

I can see this in the advancedsettings and wonder what that is:

 <from>/emby_addon_mode/</from>
 <to>http://127.0.0.1:57342/</to>

Emby server seems happy enough and doesn't comlain about restrictions

I really could use some help in figuring out what went wrong.

I see a lot of errors in the embyserver log like

Error PortMapper: Error in GetSpecificMappingAsync

Error PortMapper: Error in DeletePortMap

Don't know if they are the cause of my issues.

Well quite sure this is not a single issue here.

Have you tried disable/uninstall the PortMapper and UPNP on Emby server (in case you don't need them). Emby server has really many issues reported.

About Kodi:

Don't worry about that. It's used as a Kodi workaround for chapter image extraction. It's only used if you enable the path substitution in e4k plugin.

About the login issue, quite sure is is just a side effect of the core problem.

First what comes to mind is this error message in Kodi log.

2023-08-31 10:08:48.503 T:4444 ERROR <general>: EMBY.emby.http: [ Unknown ] Expecting value: line 1 column 1 (char 0)

This should never happen and tells me, something weird is going on. It's an invalid response from Emby server.

Can you please send me the same log but in Kodi debug mode. Send the log via PM, don't post debug logs in public.

Ok I sent you the debug log.

I also tried installing EmbyCon, which works fine, so I can't help but think that Emby Next Gen has the login issue and not the Server. Or at least they have become incompatible somehow.

I uninstalled PortMapper now. Not sure what/where UPNP settings are.

Thanks for the log, you mentioned you could not select the libs, only "all" (sync). This is not ok, on the other hand I see in the log, plugins tries to sync TV shows, Movies and Kids Movies on startup.

Did you try a clean Kodi installation on a PC (as a test).

Could those sync logs be from EmbyCon? Because Next Gen finds nothing at all.

I'll try a Windows test.

Windows Emby Next Gen works. So I assume you'll now say to reinstall CoreElec and everything again? 😬

I'm afraid, yes. Maybe use a different sdcard, so you can easly switch.
